Obituary

Dr. James “Jim” Tauber, 97, of Rocky Hill, CT passed away peacefully with his wife by his side on August 20, 2022. Jim was born in Chemnitz, in Saxony, Germany in 1924. At the age of 17, Jim chose to pursue a career in medicine, attending Beirut University for one year and then onto Faculty of Medicine in Geneva, Switzerland. There he earned his MD degree, specializing in radiology. Jim immigrated to the United States in 1949 and passed the state boards in seven states, including Connecticut. Between 1955 and 1958 Jim served in the U.S. Air Force as a physician in Japan. Along the way, he became fluent in seven languages. His repertoire included German, French, Dutch, Latin, Hebrew, English, and Japanese. After his discharge, Jim settled in Rocky Hill, CT and spent the next decade as the Chief of Radiology at the Rocky Hill Veteran’s Home. Eventually he set up a private practice in Wethersfield, retiring in 1999. For many years Jim travelled to Germany and Israel. He was an avid skier, and regularly skied in the Swiss Alps. He was also an award winning swimmer as well as a passionate lover of classical music. Jim became a resident at Covenant Living in Cromwell, CT in 2011 while maintaining his condo in Rocky Hill, where he hosted periodic music presentations in the Fireside Lounge, sharing German folk music as well as many classics. He is survived by his loving, devoted wife Paula Komar, his niece Naava Lieber of Atlanta, GA, her daughter Dawn Lieber Sasine, and her children Miles & Tatum Sasine; his extended family of 17 years, Sharon Snow and husband Alex Gomez, David Mazzola and wife Sheri Mazzola, and his beloved grandchildren, Sydney Snow and Jack Snow, who loved their “Grandpa Jim” and the many stories he shared with them. Jim was laid to rest in Kiryat Shaul Cemetery in Tel Aviv, Israel. He will always be dearly missed.
