Janet (Nibur) Zeldis, 88 years of age, of Tanglewood Rd., West Hartford, beloved wife of Dr. Norman Zeldis, died Saturday, November 5, 2011 at Lawrence & Memorial Hospital, New London. Born in the Bronx, NY, she was the daughter of the late Martin and Lillian (May) Nibur. Janet received her BS degree in Nutrition and Dietetics from New York University. Jan and Norm were married for 68 years. She was an avid golfer and a member of both the Cliffside Country Club, Avon, and the Boca Lago Country Club, Boca Raton, FL. She was a member of Congregation Beth Israel of West Hartford, a life-long member of the Women’s Auxiliary of Mount Sinai Hospital, and a teacher’s aide at the West Middle School in Hartford. She was a devoted bridge player and a long-standing member of the Hartford Bridge Club. Besides her husband, she leaves her children: Martin Zeldis of Waterford, Lillian Gorfain and her husband Barry of Preston, CT and Venice, FL, Kenneth Zeldis and his wife Alice of Pennington, NJ, and Susan Brim of San Diego, CA; seven grandchildren: Julie Marks, Alan Gorfain, Joshua Zeldis, Isaac Zeldis, Adam Zeldis, Eric Zeldis and Andrea Zeldis; four great grandchildren: Seth Marks, Mitchell Marks, Lynzey Zeldis, and Brayden Zeldis; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother, Henri Nibur, by her daughter-in-law, Sylvia Zeldis, and by a son-in-law, James Brim, and sister-in-law Pearl Nibur.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, November 9, 2011 at 11:00 AM in the chapel of the Weinstein Mortuary, 640 Farmington Ave., Hartford with Rabbi Dena Shaffer officiating. Interment will follow in Beth Israel Cemetery, Jackson St., Avon.
A memorial period will be observed at her home, 21 Tanglewood Rd., West Hartford, Wednesday following the interment, and Thursday, 6-9 PM.
