Jay G. Fromer, 88, passed away Monday, September 30, 2024 surrounded by his loving family. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Carole S. (Sammons) Fromer; his son Grant B. Fromer and his wife Erin Stabile of Boston; his grandson Hayes Fromer and his granddaughter Poppy Fromer; along with several dear friends.
Jay was born and raised in Rome, NY the only son to the late Edward and Lillian (Kaplan) Fromer. He graduated from Rome Free Academy before attending Union College in Schenectady, NY participating in the ROTC program. He earned his Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Administration before serving his country and joining the United States Air Force. He continued on to earn his degree in Meteorology through the Air Force Institute of Technology, New York University in New York, NY. During this time Jay was an Aerial Reconnaissance Weather Officer for years, earning the rank of Captain before being Honorably Discharged. He then worked as an office manager for a startup company in California before finding his career with the Travelers Insurance Company for over 30 years. With this company he worked as an Associate and Chief Underwriter, was one of three managers for the Travelers World’s Fair Pavilion in 1965, a Group Sales Representative in the New York City office and was the Director of New Business Marketing of Regional and National Customer Accounts until his retirement in 1992. In 1996 Jay and Carole worked together to own and operate an internet business Products of Nature International, Inc. Here he has been the President & Treasurer selling their line of 100% natural and personal health products.
Jay was a past President/Lifetime Member of the Greater Hartford Jaycees, Regional chairman of the US Jaycees Metropolitan Conference, a Board Member of the Glastonbury YMCA, President/Board Member/Life Trustee of the Boys and Girls Club of Hartford, Board Member and Trustee of the Connecticut River Valley Chamber of Commerce, President/Former Board Member of the Hartford Easter Seal Rehab Center and he was Co-Chairman, Press Room & Public Relations for the 1981 World Figure Skating Championships. He was Jaycee of the year 1968-69, Listed in Outstanding Young Men of America in 1970-71, Junior Chamber International Senatorship 1972 and Listed in Community Leaders of America in 1972. Jay and Carole have traveled to all of the world continents except for Antarctica, loved taking cruises to so many different destinations. A special trip of theirs was visiting Israel and making it to the sacred Western Wall in Jerusalem. With all of Jay’s work and community involvement he was very proud of his family and loved spending time with his son and grandson. All who knew Jay will miss him dearly.
Funeral Services will be held Friday, October 4, 2024 at 2:00pm at Congregation Kol Haverim, 1079 Hebron Avenue, Glastonbury, CT 06033 with burial to follow in Green Cemetery, Hubbard Street, Glastonbury, CT. After burial the family will receive guests at their home in South Glastonbury, CT.
