J. Arnold Mittelman, 90 years of age, of West Hartford passed away peacefully on Sunday morning (Feb 7, 2016) with his family by his side. Born in Hartford, CT on July 14, 1925, he was the son of the late Rueben and Hilda Mittelman. Dr. Mittelman was a well-respected physician specializing in general surgery. A graduate of Hall High School, he subsequently graduated from The University of Pennsylvania Medical School in 1948 and served in the United States Army during the allied occupation of Europe. After a period of private practice in Hartford, he retired in 1990. In addition to being an avid outdoorsman and a tennis player Arnold enjoyed traveling, boating, and spending time with his family. He leaves his wife, Barbara; His son, Gary and his wife Susan; His son, Robert and his wife Sherri; his five grandchildren, Daniel, Laura, Rachel, Sam, and Sarah; and his sister, Irma London. The family wants to extend their heartfelt thanks to Sheron Anderson, Arnold’s devoted caregiver over the past two years, who brought richness and dignity to his life. Burial is private and at the convenience of the family. A memorial period will be observed on Tuesday between 6-8 p.m. at the home of Barbara Mittelman, 81 Beacon Hill Drive, West Hartford.
