Jean (Goldman) Katz died comfortably on Saturday, November 16, 2013 at the Hebrew Home and Hospital. She leaves behind her children; Jeffrey Katz and his wife Michelle Bellinger, Sharon Furman and her husband Stuart, and Robert Katz and his wife Laurie Leader. She was Bubbie Jean to the four grandchildren she adored, David Katz, Miriam Katz, Samuel Katz, and Elizabeth Furman. She was the wife of the late Meyer Katz. She also leaves nieces Eden (Jackowitz) Ditman and Jodi Jackowitz, and other loving relatives.
She was born in New Haven, Connecticut, daughter of Bessie (Levine) Goldman and Morris Goldman, who called her Chana. She was the sister of the late Beverly (Goldman) Jackowitz. She had a strong Jewish identity that she instilled in her children. She graduated from Hillhouse High School in New Haven and the New Haven State Teachers College in New Haven.
Jean was an accomplished piano player, for her own pleasure. She was the science teacher at the Yeshiva of Hartford and taught medical terminology at the University of Connecticut Health Center. She had various other teaching positions in local schools throughout her career.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, November 18, 2013 at the Emanuel Synagogue Cemetery, 1361 Berlin Turnpike, Wethersfield with Rabbi David J. Small officiating. A memorial period (Shiva) will be observed Monday through Thursday at Jeffrey’s house from six to eight PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Hebrew Home 4 South and the Alzheimer Association. Arrangements are entrusted to Weinstein Mortuary, Hartford.
