Vogel

Obituary

Jean (Bonn) Vogel, 93 years of age, of Boca Raton, FL and West Hartford, CT, passed away on Thursday, September 13, 2018. She was the beloved wife of the late Stanley W. Vogel. Born in Pittsburgh, PA, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Hebe (Dryfoos) Bonn, Sr. Jean made her way to Hartford, CT in the 1940’s after attending Boston University. She met her husband Stan and they settled in West Hartford where she would reside for the next 70 years, raising their three sons Robert, James and Philip and supporting Stan as he started and ran the women’s retail chain Casual Corner. She was also an active donor and volunteer for numerous charitable organizations in Hartford and South Florida. Jean was a member of Tumblebrook Country Club in Bloomfield, CT and High Ridge Country Club in Boynton Beach, FL. Jean’s greatest loves included her family, friends and traveling the world, which she continued to do well into her 90’s. She wasn’t happy unless she had a trip to look forward to. Maintaining an active and robust social circle both in Florida and Connecticut, Jean enjoyed spending time with her many friends whether on the golf course, playing Mahjong, attending theatre, or visiting museums. Jean was also the matriarch of the extended Vogel family, and loved nothing more than being with her children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. A devoted hostess, Jean loved having her family and friends over for Sunday dinners and holiday gatherings, but, will be most fondly remembered for the annual “Mickey mouse waffle brunch” held at her home every year over Labor day weekend. Jean is survived by her sons, James W. Vogel of New Albany, OH and Philip J. Vogel of Bloomfield, CT; her beloved grandchildren, Jessica Vogel, Stephanie Vogel, Samuel Vogel and Charlotte Vogel; and countless other dear relatives and friends. In addition to her husband, Jean was predeceased by her son, Robert B. Vogel, her daughter-in-law Amy Friedman Vogel, her brother, Walter M. Bonn Jr., sister, Mary Roth and companion Bernard Halpern. There will be a private funeral service held by the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Vogel family fund at Kingswood-Oxford School, 170 Kingswood Road, West Hartford, CT 06119 or The Vogel Family fund, Loomis Chaffee School, 4 Batchelder Rd., Windsor, CT 06095. We wish to extend our most heartfelt condolences to the entire Vogel family.
Our heart aches that Flip has lost a wife, brother, and mother in a short span of years. We sympathize with Jessica and Stephanie who lost a mother, uncle, and grandmother way to soon. We feel sad for Jennifer who will not get to experience what could have been.
May her memory be a blessing.
With love and sympathy,
Richard and Debbie Gutcheon

We are so sorry that Jean has passed. We saw her last season at High Ridge after Roberts passing. She always looked the same never aging. We would giggle a little and we’d ask about dear Fuzzy. The women behind the men at Casual Corner, the store I grew up on in WH Center. Bravo Jean. May you be at peace. Our condolences. Pam and Roger Freedman.
