Jeffrey

(I.)

Bergen

Obituary

Jeffrey I. Bergen, 72 years of age, of Bloomfield, CT, formerly of West Hartford, died Friday, March 3, 2017. He was the husband of the late Holly (Talan) Bergen. Born in New York, NY, he was the son of the late Herman S. and Bertha (Dolgoruck) Bergen. He was the son-in-law of the late Hyman and Terry Talan. Jeffrey worked for his entire life in the automotive and commercial tire industry, including many years as President of The Tyre Man. He was an active member of the Jewish community and volunteered for many organizations including serving as Chairperson for over fifteen years of the Association of Jewish Cemeteries of Greater Hartford and Chairperson of the Greater Hartford Israel 40th celebration. In 1998 he was named a lifetime director of the Jewish Federation of Greater Hartford and in 2002 received their President’s award for his 30 plus years of service. He leaves his sons, Jon R. Bergen and his wife Elizabeth of New York, NY, and Peter T. Bergen of Lafayette Hill, PA; and his two grandsons, Alex and Jack Bergen. He also leaves behind his partner Karen Campagna and her extended family who welcomed him warmly, including her grandchildren who loved their “Jeffee” very much. He will be remembered as a caring individual who was equally quick with a joke or an offer to help, as someone who loved the pool, the beach, being outside and traveling. Jeff was a wine connoisseur and a lover of classical music. Above all else, he will be remembered as a true friend and devoted family man. Funeral services will be held at 12:30 on Monday, March 6, 2017 in the Sanctuary of Congregation Beth Israel, 701 Farmington Ave., West Hartford. Interment will follow in the Emanuel Synagogue Cemetery, 1361 Berlin Turnpike, Wethersfield. Following the interment the family will receive relatives and friends at Congregation Beth Israel between 2:00 – 6:00. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Holly and Jeffrey Bergen Family Fund, c/o Donna Wilber, Senior Development Associate, Jewish Federation of Greater Hartford, 333 Bloomfield Ave, Suite C, West Hartford, CT 06117. Jeff and I were cousins and lifelong friends. He was a devoted family man and outstanding public servant. We saw each other often. He was never too busy to help someone in need. Our families were very close.

I wish that Susan and I could attend the funeral, but it is not possible to attend as our daughter and granddaughter visiting us in FL until next week.
His life was certainly "For A Blessing!"

Knew you for a long time, 30 + years of tires and service together in greater Hartford, we kept rolling along, always a dance with the joke but collect the money and go on to the next customer. Such a small cadre we tire industry people - going to miss you comrade. PEACE!

Jeffrey and I became friends when we were 15 or 16 years old. There are many fond memories of our wild and crazy days with all our friends. Those were the fun days!! Then came reality and everyone drifted apart. I recently was extremely lucky to have Jeffery and I reconnect our friendship . Unfortunately it was cut short by his premature passing. He was a wonderful person ,honest, funny, caring genuine, and truly a good friend. My heart goes out to his family and Karen and her family who he truly loved. I missed a lot of years with Jeffery but I will always have a place for him in my heart.

So very sorry to learn of Jeff's passing. Jeff & I go back a long time and spent many a night double dating "back in the day". My heartfelt condolences go out to his immediate and extended families. We hung out together, worked together and played together. He was a great friend and growing up we would always stay in touch but not so much the past 10 to 15 years. Whenever we did meet it was always a big hugging event and then a few tears and then uncontrollable laughter. Yes, I will miss him and never forgive myself for not staying in touch. What a huge mistake that I hope never to make again. A real life's lesson. Rest in Peace my friend. I'm sure our paths will cross again. So sorry, so sad.

What a man! Devoted to his family and Karen and the Jewish Community. He performed the most righteous duties in taking care of the Jewish Cemeteries. It was a privilege to work with him and Lisa Vaith for more than 20 years on the Cemetery Committee. Henry

When we were neighbors on Cliffmore Road, Jeff would always share clippings from his hosta and suggestions on planting with us. We were members together in Probus and I first met Jeff when he solicited us for the Jewish Federation.

After losing Holly tragically and unltimately meeting Karen, whenever we would see each other he would always say how lucky he was to be with Karen.

Thoughts are with you.
