Kostin

Obituary

Jessica Lynn Kostin, 26 years of age, of Manhattan and formerly West Hartford, passed away unexpectedly August 8, 2010. Born on February 23, 1984, Jessica attended the Bess & Paul Sigel Hebrew Academy, King Philip Middle School and Hall High School, graduating early in January, 2002. She earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Vermont as an arts major in 2006. For the past two years, she worked, at dabney lee, a stationery design company in Brooklyn, initially as a graphic designer and then also as the office manager. Jessie was a most beloved and loving daughter, sister, granddaughter, aunt, niece and friend. She leaves behind her parents Michele and Dane, her brother Jeremy and his wife Laura with their children Gabriel and Evan, her sister Whitney Chernoff with her husband Keith, and her sister Elisabeth, with whom she lived and was extraordinarily close, her Nana Jean, Grandpa Ben, Uncle Stewart and Uncle Ross. She also leaves behind the entire Barbara and David Brown family with whom she had a very special relationship, as well as her best friends Brenna and Rachael with her husband Greg, with whom she shared a birthday. She was a bridesmaid for Rachael in Santorini, Greece. She leaves extensive family in England and was especially close with her cousin Chloe. Jessie’s sweet nature and kindness touched many lives. Jessie, a can-do person on whom the family relied, was always brimming with ways to make celebratory occasions special. She was the heart of the family, always willing to help out at a moment’s notice and put her whole heart into everything she did. She babysat often for her nephews whom she adored. Jessie was an avid photographer and traveler and loved playing soccer, cooking, and spending time with family, particularly at the holidays when she tried out her new recipes. She spent her junior year abroad in Florence traveling through Europe while also learning Italian and cooking. She traveled with her Nana Jean for a Bat Mitzvah trip to Norway and visited relatives in England to attend Simchas. She traveled to Hong Kong and Taiwan to spend time with her friend Rachael and drove cross country with her so Rachael could move into her new home in Portland, Oregon. She traveled with her sisters throughout Europe when they did their junior years abroad in France and Spain, studied Spanish in Spain, received her keeling license while sailing the Caribbean, and traveled with her family in Spain and France and again through many of the National Parks. Jessie visited Israel many times, two of which were archaeological digs with the Greenberg Center at the University of Hartford. Funeral services will be at Wednesday, August 11, 2010 at 11:00 AM in the Sanctuary of Beth El Temple, 2626 Albany Ave., West Hartford. Interment will follow in Beth El Temple Cemetery, Jackson Road, Avon. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Jessica’s memory to the Jewish Federation of Greater Hartford, Zachs Campus, 333 Bloomfield Avenue, West Hartford, Connecticut 06117. Shiva will be observed at the home of her parents. Arrangements are entrusted to Weinstein Mortuary, Hartford. For further information, directions, or to sign the guestbook for Jessica, please visit online at www.weinsteinmortuary.com.

As I sit and think about her young and apparently vibrant life, I shake my head and wonder "why". Jessica played soccer in the New York Metropolitan Women's Soccer League and so do I. We did not play on the same team, but her teammates said that she attended the last League meeting (where I was also in attendance) and was one of the team managers......this is extremely sad news for the women's soccer community and our heartfelt prayers are with her family and friends. There are things that passeth all human understanding and Jessica's death is one of them. May God give your family the strength and grace.

Most Sincerely, Lyndelle T. Phillips

There is a Buddhist saying, "Preoccupied with the world, who thinks of death, until it arrives like thunder?" Like thunder I felt Jessica's loss. Introduced to her through my sister Rachael, we bonded over our travels in Italy, Greece, and most recently Seattle. She was a great spirit, a person I immediately loved for no reason but her laugh and light. Much love to her family and all others whom she touched. Kristin

We remember Jessica's presence at our daughter, Rachael's wedding. She was Rachael's best friend and she gladly traveled to Santorini, Greece to share Rachael's special day. Jessica was a very special person who always put other's needs before her own.
We fondly remember the celebration of Jessica's and Greg's combined birthday party in NYC and it turned into an engagement party! What fun we had meeting Michele & Dane and the rest of her beautiful, welcoming family! We will miss you!

Jessica was a member of our Zogsports soccer team for the last several years, and all of us who played with her were shocked and saddened to learn of her passing. Jess was a great teammate and a fearless competitor, and we will miss her presence on the field and her friendship off of it. Our prayers are with the entire Kostin family, especially our teammate Liz, at this time.

Whitney, Keith and the Kostin Family
Few words capture a way to ease a difficult nature of loosing such a special person in your life. I'm sorry to learn of Jessica's unexpected passing. Jessica will be included in my thoughts and prayers from Israel. Being in such a special place and so close to many holy spots like the Kotel, in and around Jerusalem, if there is something I can do for you, your family or the special memory of Jessica in Israel, it would be an honor.

Jessica was one of the most beautiful people inside and out. I feel so lucky to have had her in my life. She was intelligent and classy, she had such a dry sense of humor she could crack you up with and she had a great laugh! I know she was always trying to get home to visit family and friends, they were so important to her. Jess helped,no actually took charge of planning my bridal shower and spent the whole morning with me and my family the day of my wedding, it was so special that she was such a part of that day, I will never forget that. She was present at so many of our family's occasions...holiday's, graduations, birthdays, bbq's, for over 10 years. She was such a part of my family, it feels as though my own sister is gone, but we will always remember her. Our family is missing her so much right now and we are keeping thoughts of the Kostin family close in our hearts. We love and miss you so much Jessie.

We are so terribly sorry for your loss. There are no words to provide you with adequate comfort at this time. But please know that your family is loved and respected in our community. From reading Jessica's obituary and having never had the benefit of meeting this young vibrant woman, one takes away a sense that in a very short time, Jessica experienced so much and gave to so many. We hope that Jessica's short time on this earth will serve as a blessing to all those who were fortunate enough to have shared that precious time with her. May the strength of your family and support from the community help you indure this most difficult time.
