Joel

(G.)

Bishop

Obituary

Joel G. Bishop, 84 years of age, of Bloomfield, CT died Sunday, September 22, 2013 after a brief illness, at St. Francis Hospital. He was the husband of the late Diane Kelman Bishop. Born in Hartford on April 17, 1929, he lived in West Hartford with Dee and raised five children. He attended local schools including Westminster School in Simsbury and then on to the University of Connecticut in Storrs. Joel was a US Army veteran of the Korean War. For the last few years, he enjoyed working with all the wonderful people at the Puritan Furniture Company on New Britain Avenue in West Hartford. His children are Samuel Bishop of Windham, ME and his two sons Roscoe and Nathaniel, Daniel Bishop and his wife Louise of Katy, TX and their children Jacob and Madeline, Susan Hartshorn of Stafford, PA and her husband John and their children Benjamin and Caroline, Emily Demarco and her husband Stephen of Baltimore, MD, Sally Turnbull and her husband Dan of Raleigh, NC and their children Brian, Rachel and Matthew. He was predeceased by his loving sister Lois, leaves his loving sister Jean Helliesen of LaCrosse, WI and many close relatives and ‘very close and good friends’. Joel was a tremendous man, loved by all and truly missed. Now a very special note to Adrienne-words have not yet been written to let you know how much happiness and love you brought into my life. Knowing your family and you knowing mine gave us a true bond and our visits to Barbara, relatives in Montreal, and our travels with Lois and Mike were just a piece of the whole pie that we shared together. I’ll be waiting for you in heaven. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 PM on Tuesday, September 24, 2013 at the Emanuel Synagogue Cemetery, 1361 Berlin Turnpike, Wethersfield with Rabbi David J. Small officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Hebrew Home & Hospital, 1 Abrahms Blvd., West Hartford 06117 or to the Emanuel Synagogue, 160 Mohegan Drive, West Hartford 06117. Arrangements are entrusted to Weinstein Mortuary, Hartford, CT. My words cannot express how sorry I am to have learned of your loss. I have such wonderful memories of Joel. Over the years there has never been a time that he was not smiling or to busy to have a great conversation. Joel always was positive and certainly loved to speak with me about our families.
Please know how sorry imam and my thoughts are with you and the entire family.

I spent enough time hanging out at the Bishop house during high school to know that Joel had a big, kind heart and a great sense of humor. What better qualities to pass along to his kids and grandkids?! All the Kuhns and Macs send love and condolences.

To all the Bishop's and Adrienne,

My heartfelt condolences on the passing of Joel. He was a great guy and someone that I always felt close to. He was my first boss (with Dee) at Deluxe package store where we spent many, many weekends together. We formed a great friendship that lasted for years after the store closed.

He was truly one of the good guys!

Emily: I hope you are doing well!

Best regards,

George Burnett

Joel was one of the few people I knew that always had a smile on hi face. His unassuming personna made him both likable and easy to relate to.
