Obituary

Joel E. Rosenblatt, D.D.S., 74, of Jupiter, FL, formerly of Bloomfield, CT, died Sunday, August 3, 2014 after a brief illness. Born in Hartford, CT, he was the son of the late Harry and Frances (Hershkovitz) Rosenblatt. He graduated from the Mount Hermon School, from Brandeis University with a B.A. in Psychology, and with a D.D.S. from New York University School of Dentistry. A Captain in the U.S. Army during the late ‘60’s, he opened his dental practice in Hartford, servicing the Blue Hills community and surrounding areas for over 37 years. He was a member of the Connecticut Dental Association as well as the Alpha Omega Dental Fraternity. Honored for his dedication to Beth Hillel Synagogue and community, he founded its nursery school and chaired the Board of Education and Adult Education committees. President of Jewish Children’s Service Organization, he was also soccer coach for the Bloomfield Junior Soccer Association. His passions during his retirement years ran the gamut, from golf, gardening, and grandchildren to politics and world affairs, continued education, and the UConn Huskies. He leaves his beloved wife of fifty-two years, Adrienne (Udis) Rosenblatt; his daughter Julie Zieff and husband Eric of Beverly, MA; his son Lenny Rosenblatt and husband Kofi Kyeremateng of Rahway, NJ; his grandchildren Matthew and Emily Zieff; and his sister Susan Newman and husband Mickey of Evanston, IL. He also leaves cousins, aunts, nieces, nephews, and many devoted friends. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, August 6, 2014 in the Chapel of the Weinstein Mortuary, 640 Farmington Ave., Hartford, CT with interment in Beth Hillel Synagogue Cemetery, Wolcott Rd., East Granby. Following the interment the family will receive relatives and friends at the home of Joni and Dan Fine, 10 Cliffmore Rd., West Hartford. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Brandeis National Committee’s “Sustaining the Mind Campaign for Scientific Research” at Brandeis University, P.O. Box 549110, MS 132, Waltham, MA 02454-9110. For further information, directions, or to sign the guest book for Joel, please visit online at www.weinsteinmortuary.com/funerals.cfm.

I can truly say that Joel was a dedicated, well-respected dental practitioner with whom I, as an oral and maxillofacial surgeon, worked with on many cases over the years he was in practice in Hartford. We had the utmost respect for each other and for the patients we served. It was always a pleasure to interact with him on many levels, as he was a wonderful, caring human being. He will be sorely missed, but, we hope his memories will serve as a source of solace for the entire family.
