Joseph A. Miller, Poppy Joe, 97 years young, of Bloomfield, devoted husband of the late Dorothy (Kaplan) Miller, passed peacefully at home on Thursday, (October 23, 2014). He was born on July 30, 1917, in Hartford to Samuel and Lena Miller. He was a Technician Fifth Grade in the U.S. Army during WWII, was a member of the Jewish War Veterans, and was an Honorary Captain of the Connecticut Governor’s Foot Guard. He leaves his children: Michael and Rebecca Miller of West Hartford, Leslie Ellen and Rudy Richardson of North Granby and Tami Battaglio and Richard DePault of Canton; his grandchildren: Brian and Renee Miller, Scott and Emily Miller, Robert and Ally Miller, Matthew and Rebecca Brainerd, Jeffrey and Kimberly Brainerd, Johnhenri Richardson, Tomilyn and Steven Thomas, Kyle and Kimberly Richardson and Nicholas Battaglio, III; 10 great grandchildren; his brother-in-law Melvin (Sonny) Kane and J¿rgen Helscher, and his sister-in-law Joyce Kaplan. He was predeceased by his sister Pauline Goldstein and brother-in-law Isadore Goldstein, sisters and brothers-in-law Charlotte and Charles Kargman; Judith and Nathan Kaplan and daughter-in-law Sandra Miller. He will be best remembered for always having a funny story.
