Josephine

(Vogel)

Wallack

Obituary

WALLACK, Josephine (Vogel) Wallack, of West Hartford, CT, died peacefully in her sleep Friday Morning, (September 10th). She was 95. Born in Hartford in 1914 to Arthur and Clara Vogel, Josephine lived in the Hartford area for much of her long life. She attended Simmons College in Boston and married the late Howard Wallack. She took over her family’s food distribution company, S. Vogel and Sons and ran it with her sister, the late Louise Rome, for many years. She was a shrewd businesswoman, growing her family business and successfully navigating what was at the time a man’s world. She was a member of Congregation Beth Israel and of the Deborah Society. She volunteered for many years with The House of Bread, assisting the non-profit organization in securing food donations for the economically disadvantaged in the Hartford area. She was extremely dedicated to her family and is most fondly remembered presiding over gracious holiday dinners at her home on Brookside Boulevard. She spent the last years of her life with her daughter, Barbara, in Versailles, Kentucky. Josephine is survived by daughters Barbara Wallack and Carol Hanan; granddaughter, Julia Hanan and great-grandson, Max Shapiro. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, September 14, 2010 at 1:00 PM at Beth Israel Cemetery, corner of Ward and Affleck Streets, Hartford. Please contact the Weinstein Mortuary for further details: 860 233 2675.

Doris Patti and family offer their condolences to Mrs. Wallack's family. Doris worked for Vogels with Josephine and her sister Louise. Mrs. Wallack was very good to my family. She will be
remembered as a very passionate and generous person.
