Judith Pinney died with grace and dignity on June 12, 2016. The daughter of the late Alice and Benjamin Munch, she was born February 4, 1929 in Hartford. After graduating from The Chaffee School she attended Wheaton College, The Hartt College of Music and in 1964 received her BA, English from the University of Hartford. She took post-graduate courses at Trinity College, Hartford Graduate Center and New England Institute for Neuro Linguistic Programming and was certified in Ericksonian Hypnosis. After doing research work at St. Francis Hospital and medical writing at University of Connecticut Medical Center she went on to become an accomplished freelance medical writer. She was a member and Fellow of the American Medical Writers Association, American Public Health Association, New York Academy of Sciences and the National Coalition on Aging. She was listed as a Distinguished Leader in Health Care by Who’s Who in American Women. She was a Secretary and Executive Committee member of the Hartford Chapter’s of the American Cancer Society and American Red Cross and a board member of Planned Parenthood and the Hartford Conservatory of Music. She was a Corporator of Hartford Hospital and a Charter Board Member of the Greater Hartford Community Hospice and on numerous committees including the Loomis Chaffee Alumnae Association. Throughout her life she was actively involved in Hospice both as a medical writer and volunteer. Judy was passionate about cooking, skiing, tennis and bridge. She enjoyed traveling, playing the piano, gardening, classical music, theatre and mineralogy. She loved learning and sought to “fathom the mysteries of life”. Judy’s sister Elizabeth Michelson and her son Andrew Kohn predeceased her. She leaves her loving son Peter Kohn and his wife Jeryl of Richmond, VA, her granddaughters Sarah and Julia Kohn and daughter-in-law Martha Kohn of Fairport, NY. She was married to the late Sidney Pinney of Hartford and leaves his family Bill, Sandy, Rees and Maggie Pinney along with their children Cole, Emma, Grayson and Lucas Pinney. The family would like to thank her many dear friends and compassionate caregivers for their love and support. A memorial service will be held Friday June 17th at 11:30am at Temple Beth Israel, 701 Farmington Ave, West Hartford followed by a reception at The Town & County Club, 22 Woodland Street in Hartford. Donations can be made in Judy’s memory to McLean Hospice in Simsbury.
