Kenneth Reid Howell, 62, of South Windsor, CT passed away early Sunday morning in his home, surrounded by his family and friends. He was the beloved husband of Linda Halpert Howell for over 35 years, father to Amie O’Brien (Eric), Jeffrey, and Joseph, and an amazing grandfather to his granddaughter and grandson. He was predeceased by his beloved parents, C. Cortland and Nancy Howell as well as his in-laws, Isaac and Mildred Halpert. He is also survived by his sister Virginia Rittner (David) and their daughter Kathy. Ken was a member of the South Windsor Volunteer Fire Department for many years, and also served as an EMT on the Bloomfield Ambulance Corp. He was employed by the Connecticut Department of Corrections, Suffield, for many years before he was disabled by his illness. Ken enjoyed helping others, being a volunteer firefighter and EMT, and camping with family and friends. His wonderful sense of humor and beautiful smile will be missed. We would like to express our appreciation and gratitude to Darius Powell, from Helping Hands, who cared for Ken the last year of his life. Ken was a member of Beth Hillel Synagogue. He was loved and will be missed by his entire family and many close friends.
Services for Ken will be held at Beth Hillel Synagogue, 160 Wintonbury Avenue, Bloomfield, CT on Tuesday, at 11:00 a.m., officiated by Rabbi Gary Atkins and Rabbi Philip Lazowski, followed by burial at Beth Hillel Cemetery in East Granby. Shiva will be observed at his home Tuesday through Thursday at 7:30 p.m. Donations in Ken’s memory may be made to either Beth Hillel Synagogue or the Lewy Body Dementia organization (www.lbda.org)
