Lawrence S. Wolfson enlisted in the U.S. Army (Air Corps) on 15 December 1942, in New York City, NY. He reported to the 493rd Bombardment Group, located at the air field at Debach, Suffolk, England on 21 January 1945, as the Radio Operator, on the B-17 crew of LT Charles H. Johnson. On 1 February, he was promoted from Corporal to Sergeant. His first combat mission was flown on 20 February, with the target being a marshalling yard (rail yard) in Nurnberg, Germany. His last combat mission was flown on 18 April, with the target being a marshalling yard in Kolin, Czechoslovakia.
Lawrence was promoted from Sergeant to Staff Sergeant on 23 April and from Staff Sergeant to Technical Sergeant on 30 April 1945.
Lawrence was a member of The Fighting 493rd Bombardment Group (H) Memorial Association.
