Leatrice “Lee” (Merahn) Fox-Zimmerman, 90 years of age, of Farmington, CT, formally of Delray Beach, FL, passed away on Sunday, December 3, 2017. She was the beloved wife of Jerry Zimmerman of Delray Beach, FL. Born in Brooklyn, NY, she was the daughter of the late Emanuel and Ceceil (Goldman) Merahn.
Lee graduated from Clara Barton High School in 1945 in Brooklyn, NY. She married Alan I. Fox in 1946 and they divorced in 1970. She met Jerry Zimmerman in 1987 and were married in 1998. Lee worked in customer service at Avis and TDK in Westbury, NY and Gem Jewelry in West Hartford, CT. As a young woman, she was a fashion model at Abraham & Strauss in New York. She loved horseback riding and tolerated boating (not her favorite thing!) on Long Island in her earlier years. She loved to read and enjoyed oil painting. She loved her family dog, Bambi. Lee volunteered for the American Red Cross Blood Bank on Long Island while raising her children. In recent years while in Florida, she enjoyed playing Rummikub, Canasta and doing puzzles books.
She is survived by her daughters, Caren Distel and her husband, Robert, of Unionville, CT, Peggy Kidwell and her husband, Jeff, of Bethesda, MD; her sons, Lawrence Fox and his wife, Sally (Sarah), of San Diego, CA, Paul Fox and his fiancè, Wendy O’Donnell, of East Lyme, CT; her brother, Arthur Merahn and his wife, Liz, of Westbury, NY; her beloved grandchildren; Ken and Amy Distel of Avon, CT, Adam and Katherine Kidwell of Edmonds, WA, Alison and Matt Patterson of Royse City, TX, Alan Fox of San Diego, CA, Brittany Fox of San Diego, CA, Amanda and Kathyrn Fox of Unionville, CT; and her nine adored great grandchildren, Braden, Caleb, Gavin and Levi Distel, Zachary Kidwell, Nathan Patterson, Isaiah Sagredo, Milah and Makenah Hernandez.
Leatrice was predeceased by her parents.
Funeral services will be held at 11:30 am on Wednesday, December 6 in the United Synagogues of Greater Hartford Cemetery, 1361 Berlin Turnpike, Wethersfield, CT 06109 with Rabbi Jon Haddon officiating. The family will receive relatives and friends at The Sound at Gateway Commons, Community Room, 98 E Society Road, East Lyme, CT 06333 immediately following the funeral. A memorial service will be held at a later date to be announced. Shiva information will be announced by the end of this week as the families live in different areas.
