Leonard Saffir, 85, of Wellington, Florida, formerly of West Hartford, passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, June 23, 2014. He had just returned home from Pennsylvania where he joyously participated in the celebration weekend of his granddaughter, Lauren’s, wedding, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Biddeford, Maine, he was the son of the late George A. and Fannie (Lifshitz) Saffir. Len was predeceased by Beverly, his devoted and beloved wife of more than 58 years, and his sister and brother-in-law, Norma (Saffir) and George Glassman. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Herbert Mendelsohn, his son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth and Julie Saffir, and his grandchildren, whom he cherished and adored; Jaimee Newman and her husband Matt, Lauren Sharkey and her husband Peter, Gregory Zuboff, Robin Saffir and Alex Mendelsohn. Len is also survived by, and enjoyed a special relationship with, his brother-in-law and sisters–in-law, beloved nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephew. The family would like to thank Lascelles and Sonia Mullings, his loving caregivers and companions. Len attended Bryant College before running the family business, Standard Printing Company, Inc. for more than 40 years. He was a long time member of Wycliffe, Tumblebrook and Cliffside County Club and was also a member of the Toppers.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 26 at 1:00pm in the Chapel of the Weinstein Mortuary, 640 Farmington Avenue, Hartford. Interment will follow at the Emanuel Cemetery in Wethersfield. The family will be receiving at the home of Ken and Julie Saffir, 3 Stillwood Chase, Weatogue, Connecticut immediately following until 8:00pm. Memorial donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
