GINSBURG, Lillian Ginsburg, of West Hartford passed away on Friday, May 15, 2009. Born on June 2, 1920 in Hartford, she was the beloved daughter of the late Samuel and Dora (Sosensky) Ginsburg. She was pre-deceased by her brother, Jacob ‘Jessie’ Ginsberg, and by her sister, Rosetta Freeman (Martin). She is survived by her beloved sister and brother-in-law, Pearl and Jacob R. Jacobson of West Hartford; by her adoring nieces and nephews and their spouses, Marjie Zivyon and her husband Benjamin, Linda Brizel and her husband Steven, Sandi Nayberg and her husband Howard, Edward Freeman and his wife Shari, Alan Freeman and his wife Brenda, and David Jacobson and his wife Sandra; by her many loving great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews; and by her dear sister-in-law, Selma Ginsberg. Aunt Lil was always close to all of her family and loved dearly by all. She also leaves a special friend, Dr. Jay B. Israel of Willimantic. Lil enjoyed a wide circle of lifelong friends and cousins. Lil had a great love of learning. She graduated from Weaver High School, Class of 1938 with high honors. She was a speaker at the graduation at The Bushnell. She graduated from McKeon Business College and Hartford Secretarial School. She attended continuing education classes at RPI, University of Hartford, and Greater Hartford Community College. For many years, she held a responsible position as a personal assistant in the group department at the Travelers Insurance Company where she maintained friendships with former colleagues. She had a deep love and knowledge for Judaism. She taught Sunday School at the Emanuel Synagogue for many years. She was an active member of the Beth David Synagogue and attended Sabbath and Holiday services regularly. Lil was active in many communal organizations including the American Medical Center of Denver, CO, holding an officer position, Hadassah, The Hebrew Academy of Greater Hartford, a volunteer at the Wheeler Clinic and a volunteer for the Town of West Hartford. She was a member of the Mandell Jewish Community Center in West Hartford enjoying the exercise classes and book reviews. She enjoyed participating at the Sage luncheons and discussions at Congregation Beth Israel and had a great respect and appreciation for Rabbi Michael Pincus and Cantor Pamela Siskin. Lil was an avid reader and could converse on any subject. Lil was a very special woman who was loved, respected and treasured by all who knew her. She will be greatly missed.
Funeral services will be held Monday, May 18, 2009 at 11:00 AM in the Chapel of the Weinstein Mortuary, 640 Farmington Ave., Hartford with Rabbi Yitzchok Adler officiating. Interment will follow in Beth David Synagogue Cemetery, Wethersfield. Shiva will be observed, following the interment on Monday and on Tuesday and Wednesday from 3-7 PM, at the home of Pearl and Jack Jacobson in West Hartford.
