GRANT, Lillian (Avroch) Grant, of Bloomfield and West Hartford, passed away on Tuesday (August 17, 2010) at St. Francis Hospital, Hartford. Lillian was born in Hartford on February 18, 1924 to the late Rose (Kaminsky) and Harry Avroch, and was the beloved wife of the late Harold “Pinky” Grant. She will be deeply missed by her three loving children: Irene (Grant) Ziskin of West Hartford, Alan (and Beth Passehl) Grant of Woodstock, GA, and Phyllis (Grant) Dermer of Blaine, TN. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Scott Ziskin of Simsbury, Kevin Ziskin of West Hartford, Michael Grant and Alexandra Grant, both of Woodstock, GA, and two great grandchildren: Ryan and Jenna Ziskin. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren were the lights of her life, and she was adored by them all. She is also survived by her sister Irma Rockoff and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her son-in-law Jack Ziskin, her brother Milton Avroch, her sister-in-law Pearl Avroch and her brother-in-law Dan Rockoff. Lillian graduated from St. Joseph’s College with a degree in early childhood education, and she started the nursery school program at the Emanuel Synagogue. She was an active member of Temple Sinai in Newington and its Rosh Chodesh group, and the Jewish War Veterans. She recently moved to Bloomfield, and loved her new home there. She enjoyed her canasta and bridge games and all the new friends she met. Lillian was a warm and loving person who made many friends throughout her life, wherever she was, and all will miss her.
Her funeral will be held at 2:30 p.m., TODAY, Wednesday (August 18, 2010), in the Chapel of the Weinstein Mortuary, 640 Farmington Avenue, Hartford with Rabbi Jeffrey Bennett officiating. Interment will follow in the Wolkowysker Society Cemetery, Hartford. Shiva will be observed at the home of her daughter, Irene Ziskin through Saturday. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Association , the American Cancer Society or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
