Lillian (Getman) Lander, 89 years of age, of West Hartford, CT, formerly of Brooklyn, NY and Southbury, CT died Saturday, July 1, 2017. She was the widow of Solomon Lander and the daughter of the late Sam and Charlotte (Shapiro) Getman. She was predeceased by her son, Howard Lander. She leaves her sons, Stewart Lander and his wife Pam and Joseph Lander and his wife Erina all of West Hartford, CT; her brother, Jack Getman and his wife Dr. Terri LeClercg of Austin, TX; and her grandchildren, Helen and Stephen Lander, Veronica Tsvok, Joshua and Shira Lander and their mother, Anne Boucart, all of whom she loved and adored. Lillian received her BA and later, while working as a full time teacher and raising a family, earned her Master’s in Special Education from Brooklyn College. She taught reading in the inner city public schools to students with special needs and was also active in several organizations including, Habonim and Hadassah. Lilian leaves a strong legacy of Jewish identity and love for art and music. She contributed to others through her wisdom and charitable donations.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, July 5, 2017 at Cedar Park Cemetery, 735 Forest Ave, Paramus, NJ 07652. The family will receive relatives and friends that evening at 6:30 pm with a service at 7 pm at 4 Dogwood Lane, West Hartford. The family will continue to receive relatives and friends on Thursday July 6 from 6-9 pm and Friday from 2-5 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hadassah www.hadassah.org.
