Obituary

KURLAND, Lillian ‘Libby’ (Goldberg) Kurland, 83 years of age, of Bloomfield, died Tuesday, September 21, 2010. She was the widow of Leslie Kurland. Born in Hartford, she was the daughter of the late Max S. and Minnie (Rome) Goldberg. ‘Bubbe’ spent her summers at Camp Ramah in the Berkshires teaching cooking to thousands of adoring children. She was a life member of Hadassah, a member of Beth Hillel Synagogue of Bloomfield and one of the greatest Yankee fans. She leaves three sons, Philip Kurland of Newport News, VA, Rabbi Paul M. Kurland and his wife Gerri of Nanuet, NY, and Kenneth A. Kurland and his wife Nancy of East Hartford; and eleven grandchildren. She was predeceased by her daughter, Heidi-Jo Kurland and her brother, Jerome K. Goldberg. Funeral services will be held at 11:30 AM on Monday, September 27, 2010 in the Sanctuary of Beth Hillel Synagogue, 160 Wintonbury Ave., Bloomfield. Interment will follow in The Rome Family Section of Beth David Synagogue, 1361 Berlin Turnpike, Wethersfield. Shiva will begin after the holidays beginning the evening of October 2, 2010 at Libby’s home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Beth Hillel Synagogue in Bloomfield or the Nanuet Hebrew Center in New City, N.Y. 10956. Lillian & I were friends many years ago in the Rebekka Lodge=We bought our kids shoes from her parents shoe store=I knew Uncle Sam & Minnie & when we rented at the beach years ago from aunt Ida at the Meltzer house=We feel like part of the family=We are unable to be with you at such a sorrowful time & our thoughts will be with you=Sending you our sympathy =I will always think of Lillian & never forget such a wonderful person=Anne & daughter Sharon
