Lois

(Yasler)

Isaacson

Obituary

Lois (Yasler) Isaacson, born December 12, 1942, of West Hartford, died peacefully on Tuesday, June 3, 2014. Born in Danbury, she was the daughter of the late Morris and Florence (Reiner) Yasler. The world has lost one of the good people. Lois was an outgoing and adventurous soul. In high school she traveled to Europe with her Girl Scout troop, visiting several countries and forming lifelong friendships along the way. Upon graduating from Danbury High School, she attended the University of Connecticut where she graduated Magna Cum Laude. She taught at the Tootin’ Hills School in Simsbury. While she enjoyed teaching, her entrepreneurial spirit was restless, and after working at the Travelers as well as a few other places, she founded Friendship Tours in 1977. Lois created a company based on the principle of bringing joy to people who traveled with her; she had the gift of making people she had just met, feel like family. The name Friendship Tours was chosen with this in mind. Lois had a zest for life and never shied away from a new adventure. Whether traveling throughout the United States, Asia, or the Amazonian rainforest, whether riding an elephant, gathering with friends, or celebrating family occasions, Lois made every event fulfilling for those involved. Her irrepressible and contagious spirit brightened the lives of all who knew her. Her love for gardening led her to become a long time member of the Connecticut Horticultural Society. As Travel Chairman for over 20 years, she planned many unique travel programs, gaining access to private gardens throughout the world. She also was a member of Beth El Temple of West Hartford and a Life Member of Haddassah. She enjoyed the arts and regularly attended The Hartford Stage Company and Theatreworks as well as many museums. A loving wife, mother, and grandmother, Lois leaves her husband, Herbert G. Isaacson; her children, Benjamin A. Isaacson and his wife Laurie with their children, Ryan, Stephanie, and Tyler Williams of Avon, Brett S. Isaacson and his fiancee Heidi Wheeler of Bloomfield, and Amy Isaacson Schoen and her husband Robert with their children, William and Hannah Schoen of West Hartford.?? Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM on Friday, June 6, 2014 in the Sanctuary of Beth El Temple, 2626 Albany Ave., West Hartford with Rabbi James Rosen officiating. Interment will follow in Beth El Temple Cemetery, Jackson St. Ext., Avon. Following the interment the family will receive relatives and friends at Beth El Temple. Shiva will continue on Sunday at their home, 1906 Albany Ave., West Hartford with evening services at 7:30. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Beth El Temple, 2626 Albany Ave., West Hartford, CT 06117 or to the Connecticut Horticultural Society, 2433 Main Street, Rocky Hill, CT 06067. Arrangements are entrusted to Weinstein Mortuary, Hartford. For further information, directions, or to sign the guest book for Lois, please visit online at www.weinsteinmortuary.com/funerals.cfm

The smiles and laughter and caring heart are what I remember most. Lois's dedication to her family and making her house a home for Herbert and the children was obvious and memorable even as she built a thriving business.

The world has clearly lost a bright light who warmed so many people's lives in so very many ways.

With Love, David and Barbara Isaacson

Lois had the best laugh and warmest smile of anyone we have known. For more than 20 years we shared laughs, good meals and bad, and a spirit of camaraderie and friendship as members of The Gourmet Club. She was a can do person who was able to juggle being a wife to her loving husband, Herb, her adoring children, Ben, Amy, and Brett, and her many admiring friends, while running Friendship Tours.

Lois, we will miss you.

Love, Barry and Fran

Ben, Brett, Amy, Dad and families: My heart aches along with the 1000s of others and yours at this sad and difficult time. Hi-Lo was a unique blessing to all of us who were fortunate enough to know and admire her. Her professionalism and persona during all my many business arrangements with her remain unmatched. She ALWAYS exemplified FUN and 'family' with each new adventure planned for myself and the Pratt & Whitney retirees over many years. It is with appreciation and gratefulness of your sharing this remarkable gift of God with myself and many others. Lois brought much sunshine and 'friendship' into each occasion along with hubby, Amy, Ben and Brett. We all grew to love and respect each of you and your sincere efforts helping Hi-Lo whom unfailingly always acknowledged each of you as well as her staff and vendors used. To know she has joined my own Jim as another of God's angels pacifies my own soul and may His deserving peace now surround her. Dott Wild/Past President P&WA retirees, East Hartford, CT

Having served as Educational Director at Beth El Temple for many years, during which time the Isaacson children attended the Religious School, I was privileged to have had many conversations with Lois. She was a wonderful, caring, person and extremely interested in her children's Jewish education.
Y'hee Zichra Baruch, May her memory be for a blessing.

Brett, Amy, and Ben,

A deep sadness hit me when I heard this news this morning. My father passed the obituary on to me and later I saw it online. I think about all the good stuff your mom did. An entrepreneur from the early days, a working woman, a loving mom, someone who looked out for all the kids in the neighborhood. She smiled a lot as I remember it. I can hear her voice. I'll be thinking of you all this week. I'm reminded by this sad news to live life well. Norah and I pass along our condolences. Our best to all of you, your families, and your father.

I am saddened to learn of Lois' passing. What great fun it was to go on one of Lois' trips allowing us to visit places we never would have seen had it not been for her vast list of contacts. On a special occasion, my husband and I traveled to California and it was Lois' suggestions of places to see that made our trip one that we will never forget.
My sincere sympathy to her husband and children but know that you were truly blessed to call Lois wife, mother and grandmother. To all of us, she was a friend.

I'm so very sorry to hear of Lois's passing.. I have known Lois since I was a teenager. She was friends with my Mom when they graduated from travel school! What a wonderful woman she was... My mother considered her a very good friend! I will miss her terribly and wish only the very best to her children, grandchildren and husband. She was an amazing woman but I'm sure you all know that already! Thank you Lois for giving me this wonderful opportunity of being a tour guide for bus trips! I can't tell you how many people think I'm the luckiest person alive for having the job that I have and it’s all because of you!

I'm sure you and Mom and so many other friends will be traveling together in Heaven!

Rest in Peace Lois.

Dear Herb,Brett,Ben,Amy and families, I am so sorry to hear about your lost of such a fantastic person. I have enjoyed working for Lois for over 16 years and she has taught me so much. I never have met a more positive and outgoing person as her. Lois has also given me the opportunity to see the world and meet many wonderful people along the way. There is not many people who are as lucky as I am to follow in somewhat her foot steps and carry on the name Friendship Tour. I would strongly have to say she was the best mentor I ever had.
