Born in Boston, Mrs. Kates and her husband, Maurice, raised their family in Newton, MA. Lorraine was assistant to the Director of Development at Brandeis University where her responsibilities included working with scholarship students, making sure they kept in touch with their donors. She loved her job, the University and the students.
After moving to Delray Beach FL, Lorraine was an active member of the Brandeis University Women’s Committee. She now had time to dedicate herself to her love of painting and needle point. Her beautiful works of art will be treasured by her family. After Maurice passed away Lorraine moved to West Hartford to be closer to her children. She continued to enjoy art therapy sessions at the Hebrew Home with Ellen Mandelberg, who provided encouragement and love to her. The family is grateful to the staff of 4 South for their compassionate care.
Lorraine’s memory will be cherished by her devoted family, Dr. Richard and Maxine Kates, David and Rosette Kates, her adored grandchildren, Robin and Dr. Jeffrey Walden, Stephen and Shana Kates, Michael and Jennifer Kates and her great grandchildren, Matthew, Lauren and Alexis Walden, Jordan and Madison Kates.
