Martha (Harris) Margolis, 104 years, passed away on May 25, 2013, at St. Francis Hospital. She was born on June 8, 1908 and lived in the Hartford area for her entire life. She was the wife of the late Louis Margolis. Martha was a graduate of Hartford Public High School and NYU School of Education. Before her retirement, she was a teacher in the Hartford Public School system, assigned to Rawson, Kinsella and Noah Webster schools. She leaves to celebrate her life and mourn her passing, her 2 sons, Charles J. Margolis of South Windsor and David and his wife Deborah Margolis, of Reston, VA.; 2 granddaughters, Cheryl L. Margolis and Kimberly D. Margolis and her husband James Mackie; 2 great grandsons, Nathaniel Louis Mackie and Owen David Mackie, a great granddaughter, Audrey Ruth Mackie, and 2 nieces, Mary LaForge and Janet Harris. Martha was a former member of the Emanuel Synagogue. She was a championship bridge player and an avid reader. All those who knew her will remember her as a kind and gentle person, devoted wife and loving mother, adoring grandmother, and doting great grandmother. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her parents, Charles and May (Goldman) Harris and her sister Roslyn Green and her husband Adolph Green, and her brother in law, Henry Margolis. The family would like to thank the staff of Alexandria Manor for their compassionate caring during the past years.
A graveside service will be held at the Emanuel Synagogue Cemetery, Berlin Tpke, Wethersfield, CT, on Wednesday, May 29, 2013 at 11:00 AM. Shiva will be observed at the home of Charles Margolis, 104 Mill Pond Drive, South Windsor, CT from 5-8:00 PM on Wednesday evening. Memorial donations can be made to the contributor’s charity of choice.
