I like so many others will truly miss Marty, and I know there will be a void in the atmosphere at the future meetings and confrences that he previously attended, as he had his own unique place in so many ways.

Never loud and boisterus, well very rarely loud, but never boisterous, Marty's contributions were most often seen as sucesses of those that he had offered advice in a personal conversation. His council was as a friend would offer, clear concise and explained so that it could be easily understood.

Marty didn't grab the opportunuity to jump into the limelight and be recognized, he facilitated others by helping them see the decisions and directions that were most appropriate for the situation. If there ever was a person that worked behind the scenes well, it was Marty. Knowledgable and compassionate his guidance was supportive even when he told you that you were headed in the wrong direction, for he always offered alternatives that would at least get things started in the right direction. He showed many of us how to lay a firm foundation and to build on it after it had become solid, rather than moving too quickly. I believe he was always looking to the next chapter in the book, while many of us were on occasion a bit shortsighted.

As a personal friend and as a council for four organizations that I have participated in over many years, Marty was a quiet yet vital cornerstone to these organizations. We all felt better knowing Marty was there watching and guiding.
There are many people that have been recognized as leaders in EMS.and to use a phrase I have heard elsewhere, "they have risen in stature because they were standing on the shoulders of giants". There are many that owe in part their success and stature to Marty for he was in the background supporting them and their organizations. He will truly be remembered as a"Giant" in EMS.

Rest easy my friend, you have left a legacy that will continue to guide many of us in the future. Save a spot on the duty roster up there for your many friends as they join you over time.Till we meet again....Lou

Marty was a man among men. A most positive person who found a way to make things happen for the betterment of mankind. A fun guy to socialize with and one whose advise you always listened to. Although I did not know of his illness, I regret I could not call him to help improve his spirits. If I could only put another smile on his face; it would have been so nice. I'll be at the NRAEMT conference this year where if we had the table of honor I would be saluting the memory of my friend and colleague Marty Stillman. His memory will be enternal in my mind and I hope to see him again when my time on earth has been completed. His vacancy on earth will be felt my many. God Bless his spirit!

May the memories you share, sustain you and bring a smile to your face in the days and weeks ahead as you all adjust to life without his physical presence.

We all will miss Marty. I was fortunate to know Marty from a long time ago with EMS, First Aid, and the relationship he had with Police and Fire. You had to be quick to beat his sense of humor. He was caring and sharing. He made you laugh. He was just plain down to earth. He just was a decent human being. My heart goes out to all of his loved ones. Marty, may you rest in peace and keep them always laughing. Again, we will miss you. Ron Catania of Rocky Hill

Dear Sue and Family,
Your husband, Your Dad, Your Grand Dad, will always be a giant in my memories. He was not tall in stature but he was monumental in the eyes of everyone who ever worked with him.

I started in EMS in CT in 1975 and already he had established a reputation in EMS (well I do no think we even called it EMS yet) as 'the man with the answers'. Everywhere I went West Hartford Vollies, Professional Ambulance Service, Bloomfield Vollies, NCEMS, EMS Conferences local and distant, Canton Memorial Ambulance, Wethersfield Vollies, he already had or was leaving busy his mark.

What fantastic contributions he has made to us in so many ways. It does not take much imagination to realize that through his efforts EMS in CT, and a lot of other places also, has saved countless lives and ameleorated untold amounts of suffering and pain. I hope that this can be some solace to you as you come to terms with him being away at one more long EMS conference.

Thank you for sharing Marty with us all.

We are deeply saddened to hear of Marty's death. He was so supportive to both of us - Dave as an evaluator and to me as a member of CSEMSI's Board of Director's. I will truly miss his keen but understated sense of humor, his sharp wit, his passion for EMS and his obvious love for all who were graced by his presence, and especially his love for and pride in his family. He was an inspiration to me in life and in his struggles with his declining health in recent years. Our sincere sympathy is extended to his wife Sue, his children and family and his special friends.

My first recollection of this man was that of a 'giant' of a man as I attended an NAEMT meeting and listened as he explained and described many legal issues of concern and then of course being an expert parliamentarian. I learned from Marty the first minute and continued learning from him at meetings and by phone. My last very clear recollection of friend Marty was a year ago at a Baltimore Orioles game many from NAEMT attended after working at conference. My wife Sue and I enjoyed the game even more while watching Marty enjoy the game. Marty, with his experience was also kind enough to share his expertise with Sue as she became more involved in national issues and concern. Marty was kind enough to share his suggestions and past experiences w/ me on many issues all of which continue to make me a better person. Until reading his "life" in print, I had no idea of all of his accomplishments. All I orinally knew and worked from were comments like "he's theman to go to if you want that answered" or "yes, he's done quite a bit for EMS". His humility came thru and I now know he created what many now know as a career in his region. His passion allows others to enjoy life in EMS and his skills and drive in EMS has allowed others to return home to enjoy their families. Marty, friend, you are with us daily, your smile and your passion for EMS and friends will survive us all. Missed, never forgotten and always the true gentleman, family man, expert and above all friend.

Marty - One of the greatest honors in my life has been the privilege of knowing and working with you. We have worked together periodically for 20 years and for all the heart to hearts we shared over the years there was so much I still didn't know about you. I am sad that you needed to leave us so soon when there was so much more for you to share with the world. You are an amazing man, Marty, and I will always love you and miss you. I think of you every time I eat a lobster (ha! ha!).
To Marty's Family - My heart cries for all of you for the tremendous loss you are sharing. I share that loss with you as we say goodbye to a man that no one can rival. If everyone had a heart as big as Marty this crazy world would be perfect. Marty fought a battle that was too difficult to win but he fought it valiently. If there ever was a man who could have beaten this, Marty would have been that man. Take comfort in knowing that Marty will live on in the hearts of everyone he touched.
