Jacobs

Obituary

Michael Harris Jacobs died Thursday (April 27, 2017). In typical Mike Jacobs fashion, he died in a larger than life way, in Mexico right after a lunch laughing with his wife and friends. Writing a standard obituary wouldn’t honor this loved man because he was anything but ordinary. There is no template that would properly do his legacy justice. Mike Jacobs raised his daughters on the motto “learn to dance in the rain.” He carried that through his life. From growing up on Chatham street in Hartford with his late parents Gloria and Abe. To his days studying sociology at American International College. To his 22 years with RBC (39 years in the industry). To his most recent career as a stand up comedian where he performed all over the country. Everyone who encountered Mike Jacobs even for a minute, walked away in a better mood. To those who know him you are smiling right now because you know that exact feeling. Hold on to it. Carry it with you. Honestly, it’s hard to go into his vast and impressive resume, because that was never what it was about with Mike. He just wanted to make people laugh. And he did just that. His passion for stand up comedy didn’t happen until later in his beautiful life, but his desire to make people laugh was something he was born with. He wrote in his mother’s obituary, “laughter is the shortest distance between two people.” That is how the family encourages everyone to remember him. Always with quotes. Always leaving you with a smile. Always making you laugh. Mike Jacobs the Comedian had another side to him. He was also extremely compassionate, sensitive, and wore his heart on his sleeve. If you were in pain, he felt every ounce of that with you. On your dark days he would be by your side until you learned to dance in the rain. He lived a full beautiful life and will be sorely missed. Mike Jacobs leaves behind his devoted wife of 12 years Candace “Candy” Jacobs of Mystic; his daughter Jillian Jacobs, daughter and son-in-law Alyson and Matthew Leydig, daughter and son- in law Abigail and Christopher Hoffman, daughter Margaret O’Brien, grand-children Samuel Leydig, and Tristan and Talon Hoffman; Mother-in-law Patricia Copp, sister and brother-in-law Elisse and Bob Foley, and nephew and niece Donald and Betsy Cosenza. In addition, Mike leaves many other cherished cousins, his Masons Island family who he adored, his RBC family, fellow comics from the New York Friars Club, and friends, many of whom he spoke with daily. Funeral services will be Tuesday, May 2nd at 3:30 in the afternoon in the chapel in the Weinstein Mortuary 640 Farmington Avenue Hartford with burial in Fairview Cemetery, West Hartford. Arrangements are entrusted to Weinstein Mortuary, Hartford CT. Mike was a classmate of mine and we graduated together in 1969 from Weaver HS. I had the great pleasure of working with him and others on the only class reunion we ever had. He was a tremendously giving person and I am so sad that he has passed so suddenly. He seemed so happy in his new life as a comedian which really appeared to be his purpose in life. Myself along with all who knew him will miss him dearly

We'd only known Michael for a few short months, but in that short amount of time, we got close, looked forward to sitting out at the pool together, and listening to his great stories. He was a dear, sweet man and will be truly missed.

Our hearts go out to Candy and their families.

Mike was a long-time friend of my Mother, Rosalind Gold, and our adviser for many years. His loss was a shock and is deeply felt.
He was always interesting and engaged. In our recent (last) talk, he again showed his great intelligence and wit, this time in a discussion of current affairs.

My wife and I send our condolences.

My heartfelt condolences for the loss of your beloved . Please know that God and his son Jesus Christ is aware of your pain and they care for you. (2 Corinthians 1:3,4) . I pray that you are able to find comfort in God's promise of paradise where there will be no more pain and sorrow (Revelation 21:4,5)  and the many wonderful  memories of your beloved becoming a reality in the future  resurrection in paradise.  (Acts 24:15). It is with a very heavy hand that I write on behalf of the entire SIFMA Foundation team to express our deepest sympathies on Mike’s passing. Mike was a true champion of financial education, serving as one of our star volunteers over many years. Our entire team had the pleasure of getting to know and work with Mike. He supported more teachers, students and activities than can even be counted. And was frequently asked for encore performances. His humanity, humility and humor had more impact than you can imagine on all of us. He spoke of his family often and with great pride. I will miss his photos and texts in particular. Here is to a remarkable man, father, colleague and friend. A donation is being made in his honor to Red Nose Day. With sadness, Michelle

Candy: Val and I extend to you our deepest condolences on this untimely passing of Mike. I knew him for 30 years, both as an Advest client and witness; friend and informal financial adviser. We spent lots of time together preparing for Advest arbitration hearings and he was great fun to be with. He was a wonderful, gregarious person who always saw the best in other people. He did indeed keep me laughing whenever I saw him. I regret I didn't see him more in the last few years. I am sad but also happy that Mike was able to do his comedy career later in life, because I know it brought him great joy and happiness.

To The Family of Mike Jacobs,

So sorry for your loss. My sincere condolences. The last time I saw Mike was five years ago, just before Marie and I relocated to "The Cape". We spoke on the phone quite often. When ever we spoke we would always talk about the "Old Neighborhood" and the kids we came up with. We have all come along way from Blue Hills Ave. but we never have forgotten from where we came from. It seems like yesterday. Mike was there for Fred and I when we lost our beloved brother Larry (the monk), we appreciated his reaching out to us and his compassion. He was a great guy and boy could he tell a funny story!

Well old buddy, rest in peace. I will miss you. BARUCH ASHEM

I hired Jake in 1974 at Advest and we've been best buddies ever since. We hit it off immediately and became the brothers we never had. I'm still having trouble believing he's gone. I had surgery 10 weeks ago and he called me every week to see how I was doing - that's how thoughtful and caring of a friend he was to all who knew him. My thoughts and prayers go out to Candy, Jillian, Aly and all of his family and all of his friends that were lucky enough to share some laughs with him.

Deepest Sympathy and Condolences to the family and friends.
Mike was an amazing man, I knew him through the comedy world; when I was hospitalized in New Haven following a horrific car accident, Mike visited me weekly, brought dumplings from the street carts, good coffee and would regale me with the goings on in the outside world. Truly a Mensch!
