Mildred “Milly” (Levine) Cohen, 87 years of age, of West Hartford, formerly of Boyton Beach, FL), died on May 4, 2016. She was the beloved wife of the late Milton “Milt” G. Cohen. Born in Brooklyn, NY, she was the daughter of the late Morris and Sophie (Makofka) Levine .
Employed as Stenographer, polygraph assistant, realtor and X-ray technician Milly’s true passion was as a portrait artist, working with oils. Her work on large canvases, expresses an emotional sober appreciation of life. In the early 80’s Milly began writing a whimsical commentary column for the Avon News called, “Observations”, where she used humor to express her view of the world. When she wasn’t writing about Avon she recounted life events, with a twist, living with her retired husband. Highly interested in electronics, Milly was the first one to introduce the computer to family and friends. While in FL she taught computer classes for seniors, as well as, computer graphics for many community organizations. Along with the love of her life, “Milty”, she enjoyed collecting antiques and was extremely generous with gifting and time. She leaves her daughter, Joyce Leibert and her husband Richard of West Hartford, CT; her sister, Roslyn Gurock of Bellerose, NY; her three granddaughters, Deborah Leibert Kritzman and her husband Alfred “AJ” of West Hartford,CT; Cheryl Leibert Mahoney and her husband Nathan of Los Angeles, CA; Sarah Leibert Williams and her husband Matthew of Simsbury, CT and her beloved great-grandchildren, Sophie, Sally and Sadie Kritzman, Henry Williams and Harrison Mahoney. Additionally Milly leaves her loving Nieces and Nephews, the Hammonds, Gurocks, McGarys, Rabinowitz, Fights, Truehafts and Cohens. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her son, David Allen Cohen.
Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 pm on Friday, May 6, 2016 at the Beth El Temple Cemetery, Jackson St. Extension, Avon with Rabbi James Rosen. Shiva will be observed on Friday, May 6 after services at the Kritzman home, 38 Fulton Place West Hartford, CT. Shiva will also be observed Sunday and Monday evening at the home of Joyce and Richard Leibert 44 Clifford Drive West Hartford, CT.
