Miriam Greenberg Shoor Ballot, 93,passed away on February 5, 2011 at Sarasota Memorial Hospital, Sarasota, FL. She was born July 5, 1917 to Louis Greenberg and Rose Segall. A long time native of Hartford, CT Miriam began a short career as a radio actress for WTIC. Her passion and love of clothing lead her to work as an associate for G. Fox & Co. Miriam married Ernest Shoor in 1940. Miriam and Ernie opened the EMLY Shop, a successful women’s ready to wear shop in West Hartford Center. Mr. Shoor passed away in 1959.
In 1961, Miriam married Milton Ballot, a local businessman. Miriam and Mickey split their time between Connecticut and Florida, where they lived aboard their boat, the Second Time Around. Mr. Ballot predeceased her.
Miriam’s flair for clothing was demonstrated in the many sweaters and clothing that she knitted for herself and her family. In later life, she became passionate about her needlepoint, creating many treasured pieces, some of which were on display at her residence, the Sarasota Bay Club. She will always be remembered for her fashion flair and her indomitable personality.
She will be missed by her son, Louis Shoor and his wife, Tracy of Waterford, CT, her grandchildren Jonas Shoor of Cambridge, MA, Hollis Shoor and his wife Rochel of San Mateo, CA and Erin Braunstein and her husband, Joshua of Ridgefield, CT, her great granddaughters, Noe Shoor, Gemma Shoor, Shayna Braunstein, Sydney Shoor and Aubrey Braunstein. She was predeceased by her brother Bennett Greenberg. She will also be missed by the remaining Dolly Sisters, Regina Heller and her husband Milton and Arlyne Hershenson and her husband Herb and also by her many nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be held Wednesday, February 9, 11:00AM in the Chapel of the Weinstein Mortuary, 640 Farmington Ave., Hartford, CT. Interment will follow in Beth Israel Cemetery, Avon, CT. The family will observe Shiva at her son’s home in Waterford, CT Thursday Evening, February 10 at 7:30.
