Molly Tulin, 89 years of age, of Portland, OR, formally of Hartford, CT, died on April 27, 2017. She was the beloved wife of the late Dr. Sidney Norwitz. Born in Hartford, CT, she was the daughter of the late Saul and Mary (Lassow) Tulin. Molly was the 1945 Weaver High School salutatorian. Then spent a year in residence at the University of Toronto and graduated from Smith College. Molly and Sidney were founding members of Beth El Temple of West Hartford, Connecticut. After Sidney’s death in 1965, Molly went back to school earning a teaching certificate and a degree in Social work while simultaneously raising two boys alone. Molly retired from the Connecticut Department of Human Services after many years as a child placement and adoption specialist. She was always active in live theater (everything Shakespeare); Elder-Hostel and worldwide travel including Israel twice. At the age of 77 she moved to Portland, Oregon to help raise her youngest grandchild, Lily. Molly was a life-long learner, writing poetry and studying at Portland State University into her 80’s. Molly became an early organizing member of Congregation Shir Tikvah in Portland. She leaves her two sons, Jeffrey Norwitz and his wife Marguerite of Richmond, KY and Leonard Norwitz and his wife Janis of Portland, OR; four grandchildren, Sefra Gemma, Sidney Norwitz, Shale Norwitz, and Lily Beeson-Norwitz; and four great grandchildren, Xavier, Nathaniel, Samara, and Adelaide. Molly was predeceased by her brother, Norman Tulin. A graveside memorial service will be held at 1:30 pm on Tuesday May 2 in the Beth El Temple Cemetery, 51 Jackson St, Avon, CT. with Rabbi James Rosen officiating.
