Muriel Axelrad Klein, 92, of Ironwood Road, West Hartford, died Sunday, February 14, 2010. Born in 1917 in Brooklyn, NY to Pauline and Jacob Axelrad, her father was a corporate attorney, lecturer and had three historical biographies published. In 1955, he was on the ?Who?s Who in America? list. Mrs. Klein attended the famous Erasmus Hall High School in Brooklyn, NY and was graduated from Cornell University in 1938 with a B.A. in English Literature. In 1941 she married Joseph Klein, M.D. an OB/GYN. In 1946 they moved to Hartford. Dr. Klein joined the staff of Hartford Hospital where he practiced for over thirty years. They moved to West Hartford where they spent the remainder of their lives. Mrs. Klein was active in the Hartford Hospital Auxiliary and the Connecticut Opera Guild and was passionate about her bridge clubs. Above all, she was a devoted wife and mother. Mrs. Klein was pre-deceased by her husband in 1985 and her half brother, Sidney Terr, Ph.D., in 1953. She leaves a son, Matthew A. Klein, M.D. (Jessica) of Deerfield Beach, FL, and a daughter, Karen Soby of West Hartford, as well as two grandchildren, Rachel and Jared Klein of Portland, OR. In accordance with the family?s wishes, interment at Springfield Cemetery will be private. Those who wish to make donations may do so to the Joseph Klein, M.D. Memorial Book Fund at Hartford Hospital which awards medical books to the outstanding resident of OB/GYN graduating each year.
