Myra

(B. (Wiskind))

Panitch

Obituary

Myra Panitch, 87, passed away peacefully on Saturday October 27, 2018. She was predeceased by her husband of 63 years, Joseph Panitch. She leaves her brother Milton Wiskind of Akron, OH, her children Barry Panitch (Peggy) of West Hartford CT, Carol Lipson (Gary) of South Windsor CT, Nancy Flaggman (Allan) of White Plains NY and her 3 grandchildren, Mike Lipson (Laura Babcock) of Sunnyvale CA, Jackie Lipson of Los Angeles CA and April Flaggman of Washington DC, and many close friends and family. Born and raised in Newark, NJ, the daughter of Mendel and Jean (Cohen) Wiskind, she lived the last 46 years of her life in West Hartford, CT. Myra attended Syracuse University and NYU, where she graduated with a Teaching Degree. She went on to obtain a Masters Degree in Education from the University of Hartford while her children were teenagers. She was an enthusiastic elementary school teacher in Simsbury, CT until her retirement at age 60. She had a life-long love of art and music. She sang with the Masterwork Chorus in NJ, the Hartford Chorale and Farmington Valley Chorale. She was an active member of Congregation Beth Israel in West Hartford for many years and sang in their Choir. Upon her retirement from teaching, she traveled extensively with Joe to Europe, China, Mexico, Russia, South America, Israel and all over the US and Canada, much of it to sing with a Choral Group. Myra was also a docent at the Wadsworth Athenaeum in Hartford, where she shared her love of art with the public while conducting tours of various artworks in the museum. She was a fan of the NY Mets and loved watching UCONN basketball. Myra was an approachable, upbeat and positive person, a voracious reader who always had a stack of books and loved to visit the library. Most of all she loved people, and was always interested in learning about them, their lives and families. The family would like to give special thanks to Myra’s Summerwood community, where she felt welcomed for several years after our dad’s passing. And we would especially like to thank the absolutely wonderful staff and residents of St. Mary Home, who took such loving care of our mother and made her last days comfortable for her, and a blessing for us. A funeral service will be held Thursday, November 1 at 11am at Congregation Beth Israel in West Hartford. Arrangements are entrusted to Weinstein Mortuary, Hartford, CT.

I knew Myra and Joe from the CBI choir - both so welcoming and kind. Joe had a wonderful sense of humor and Myra was a good partner in crime for him :-)
Our community was blessed for many years with their warmth and caring - they are missed.
