Naomi

(Dunn)

Eichenbaum

Obituary

Dr. Naomi A. (Dunn) Eichenbaum, 98 years of age, of Murphy, NC, formerly of New Britain, CT, died Wednesday, April 6, 2016. She was the widow of Dr. Irving W. Eichenbaum. Born in New Britain, CT, she was the daughter of the late Morris and Rose (Kallinsky) Dunn. Naomi was awarded her D.D.S. from University of Maryland in 1939 graduating at the top of her class. She and her husband, Irving set up a pediatric dental practice in New Britain where they practiced for 50 years, retiring in 1995. Naomi, along with Irving, was a founding member of the Connecticut Society of Dentistry for Children. Together they were pioneers in the new field of Children’s Dentistry. They worked to lessen their patient’s anxiety by creating a child friendly environment in their office and using new techniques to ease the child’s worries during dental visits. They specialized in treating children with special needs both in their office and at New Britain General Hospital. They were nationally and internationally recognized for their many research articles including a study exploring children’s anxiety using pre and post dental treatment drawings. Naomi was a founding member of the New Britain Chapter of Hadassah. She held many offices in the New Britain Chapter of Hadassah including President. She is survived by her children, Dr. Daniel M. Eichenbaum and his wife Rhonda of Murphy, NC, Deborah Rose O’Neal and her husband John of Ventura, CA, Dr. Jesse D. Eichenbaum and his wife Roberta of Matthews, NC, and Rachel S. Eichenbaum of Dover, NH; thirteen grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 11am on Thursday, April 14, 2016 at Beth Alom Cemetery, Allen Street, New Britain with Rabbi Rosen officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hadassah: 40 Wall St., New York, New York, 10005. Arrangements are entrusted to Weinstein Mortuary, Hartford, CT. I was given my first "real job" by Dr.'s Eichenbaum and Dunn. I learned so much from both of them while assisting them in some very complex procedures. Dr. Dunn was my true mentor and from her I learned to be brave, positive and to reach for the sky. She loved her family dearly and was so excited when she received cards from them which she shared with that wonderful smile and laugh of hers. She will be missed by so many but leaves a legacy that will be remembered by so many. Condolences to the family----Laura

Clearly you have been blessed to have your Mom around for all these years. She and your Dad were familiar names growing up, and role models for all who knew them personally and professionally.

She would laugh and tell me stories of her kids growing up. Read me cards she got from one of them. She would be so excited to know they were coming to see her. To eat supper with her. Calls she got from her family and friend. We laughed and had such good time. I love you so much sweet lady.

Working with Dr. Eichenbaum and Dr. Dunn was on of the best experiences of my life. I learned so much from them. As a result I have worked in the same dental practice for 37 years. They were a caring, understanding team meeting the needs of children. With all they did for the community they also raised four wonderful children. Thank you Dr. E and Dr. D for just being the best you could be.

Both Naomi and Irving were best friends with my late husband, Dr. Nat Dubin and then with me when we were married. They welcomed me to the area and were kind and thoughtful and generous to us both. Naomi was the most charming, humorous, caring and efficient woman I knew....and so brilliant and yet humble....and a wonderful hostess and friend. I missed having her in the area and thought of her often. Just last week, I was going to call her again. I'm sorry I missed the chance. She was truly one in a million.

On behalf of Judith Brodsky and family we send our condolences to the family. My mother and Naomi shared a long history in New Britain Hadassah and both of your parents were our Dentists growing up. She was a professional woman well ahead of her time and a lovely person. May her memory be for a blessing.

AS A CHILD I REALLY LOOKED FORWARD TO MY VISITS TO DR.DUNN'S OFFICE. THE WAITING ROOM HAD A SPECTACULAR COLLECTION OF BOOKS TO READ. MY MOTHER POINTED TO HER AS AN EXAMPLE OF HOW FAR A WOMAN CAN GO IF SHE PUT HER MIND TO IT.

To all the children of Naomi and Irving. Your parents were my Dentists when I was 11 years old until High School in New Britain. I always rememeber looking at your Dad's picture on the wall when he was in the Service with him holding an "old fashioned" drill fixing someone's teeth. Traumatic!!!!! He never believed in novacaine and when I finally had to have some two years ago I ended up in the Emergency Room for 7 hours. Thank goodness he never used it. Naomi fixed my baby teeth then after a few years sent me to your Dad. My parents were patients of your Grandfather Dr. Morris Dunn and thought highly of him. God Bless you and your relatives during this time of grief.

For almost 50 years, we were very fortunate to have Irving and Namoi Eichenbaum as our next door neighbors. You couldn't ask for kinder, more considerate neighbors. We are very sad to hear of the loss of your beloved mother. You are all in our thoughts and prayers.

There are no words to express my sorrow for your loss.

I remember Dr Dunn and Dr Eichenbaum fondly as my Dentists, Climbing the stairs to the office, and the experience of the Dental Office. but I also remember living across the street On Roslyn Drive growing up in New Britain. Great memories.

Praying that the Lord will give you strength during this difficult time.
