Obituary

Norma Trusiewicz

Loving wife, mother and grandmother

Norma Trusiewicz, age 70, beloved wife of Michael Trusiewicz, passed away unexpectedly at her home in Middlebury on July 1, 2017 after a courageous battle with long-term, treatment resistant Lyme Disease.

Norma was born on April 25, 1947 in Hartford, Connecticut to the late Bernard and Mary Semel. She attended Windham High School and later fulfilled a life long dream of earning her degree in Nursing and Public Health from the University of Hartford.

In addition to her husband of 40 years, Norma is survived by her three children, Regina Leahy and her husband Brendan Leahy of Redding and their children Silas and Cora; Eric Trusiewicz and his partner Monta Rozenburga, currently residing in Madrid, Spain; and Shawn Douton and her husband Chris Douton of Willimantic and their two children Holly and Caroline. In addition to her parents, Norma was preceded in death by her sister, Linda Hartling of New London.

Norma will be remembered for her devotion to her family and her steady desire to take care of those in her life. She worked at St. Mary’s Hospital as a registered nurse for a decade and then became a public health nurse for the city of Waterbury, first working as a clinic nurse and then working as a school nurse at Walsh School. There she cared for the children as if they were her own and spoke passionately about providing the best care to the students. Norma would often be the first person friends or family would call with a medical question and she would go to the ends of the earth to help those around to be well.

Norma loved spending time with her grandchildren and devoted much of her later years to creating memories with them. She was known as “Bubbie” and was adored by them. Her home was a magical place to be visited. She will be forever in all our memories.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, July 5, 2017 at Temple B’nai Israel Cemetery, 227 Stafford Rd., Mansfield, CT 06250. Arrangements are entrusted to Weinstein Mortuary in Hartford, CT. Remembering Norma. You were a light in the world that brightened many people's lives. You left behind a trail of warmth wherever you went. The trail is still there, unseen by human eyes, but often felt by human hearts. May many pick up that trail and follow.

Dear Family.
Your Mom, Norma Semel and I attended Windham High School in Willimantic. She was a very special, loving, respected and respectful and smart person. Through the magic of Facebook, we became more close than we were in Hogh School. We shared politics, Nursing, love of travel and live of family. I am so sorry that I was not aware of how ill she had become. We had talked about getting coffee after I completed my travels to Denmark and to China this month ...June was filled with MDs and a new grand baby. We never set a date. I miss her counsel, her intellect and her stories. She told me about a Willimantic I did not know. My sadness, as is yours, I'm sure, is that I cannot have that coffee. My happiness is that I have wonderful memories to hold dear. Peace to you all.

I was so sorry to hear of Norma's passing. I had not seen her for quite a while but I worked with her on Sacred Heart 5 at St. Mary's hospital and I considered her a great nurse and a friend . Rest in peace Norma.

Dear Mike and Family,
I am so very sorry to read of Norma's passing and the challenges of Lymes that she faced in recent times. Gosh, so very sorry. I remember Norma as a beautifully artistic and vibrant wife and Mom with a tremendous love for her family. She shared an endearing love of the moment that was contagious. I hope to keep that memory safe in my prayers. May all of your wonderful memories help you through your loss.

I had the pleasure of working with Norma when she was a public
health nurse at Walsh School. Norma had a special gift.
She listened to the children and interacted with them like
SHE REALLY CARED. The children trusted her.
When a child's health issue arose that was questionable to her-
she would endlessly pursue the resolution. Norma was like that.
Norma was real. Peace to you, my friend.

Mike,
Mary and I and our daughters are so sorry to hear of your family's
loss of Norma. We are very thankful that we had the occasion to have you and Norma visit with us a few years back. Norma had such a capacity to include people in her circle of friends and to have acquaintances become friends. I didn't expect that Norma would continue to communicate with Theresa and Becky. We will all miss her.

Nurse Norma was such a beautiful person. She always had a smile on her face. While working at Walsh School, we would sit and have our daily dose of laughter before tackling the day. The way she dealt with the students, my own children included, was as if they belonged to her.
I pray that your family is granted strength and comfort from the most high, while dealing with this difficult time and even long after.
MAY NURSE NORMA SLEEP IN PEACE
