A graduate of Hartford Public High School and the University of Connecticut, he did graduate work at Central Connecticut State University. He retired from the Enfield school system in the late 80’s and had taught science at Kosciusko Jr. High and later Fermi High School.
He leaves to mourn his wife, Anita (Arenstein) Shear, his beloved daughter, Susan Beauregard, her husband Mitch, and their three year old son Lannie who was the apple of his grampy’s eye. He was predeceased by his two brothers, Nathan and Manuel Shear.
Funeral services will held on Wednesday, May 16, 2012 at 1:00 PM in the Chapel of the Weinstein Mortuary, 640 Farmington Ave., Hartford, with Rabbi Debra Cantor officiating. Interment will follow in the Congregation B’nai Sholom Cemetery, Jordan Lane Extension, Wethersfield. A memorial period will be observed at the Shear home, 76 High Ridge Dr. Newington, Wednesday following the interment, and Thursday and Friday 11 am – 3 pm. Rest in Peace Phil. You wore many hats. Student, soldier, teacher, scientist, gardener, astronomer, etc but the hat you wore the best was that of family man. Your love for your family, wife, daughter, and grandson was never in question. You are and will be greatly missed.
