GOLDBERG, Phyllis (Bockser) Goldberg, 91, of Avon died Saturday, January 19, 2008. Born in Lynn, MA, she was the daughter of the late Max and Jennie Bockser. She graduated from Lynn High School. Phyllis was a legal secretary for many years in Hartford and after moving to New York City in 1967 she became an editor and administrator at the Center for International Studies at New York University. She moved back to the Hartford area in 1982 to be near her son and daughter-in-law and their children for whom she baby sat and taught the finer points of English grammar. She volunteered for 20 years at the Avon Health Center where she taught and coached knitting and where she ultimately spent her final days under great and loving care. She was an avid fan of the UConn Huskies Men?s and Women?s basketball teams and the Boston Red Sox. She led a long, loving, healthful and productive life and leaves behind many wonderful friends in Taos, New Mexico, New York City and the Hartford area including her dear friends and neighbors at Whispering Pines in Avon where she spent many enjoyable years. Phyllis is survived by two children, Jenny Goldberg of Taos, New Mexico, and Edward Goldberg and his wife Sherri of Simsbury and their children, Andrew, Michael and Rachel. She is also survived by several cousins, nieces and nephews, and many dear friends. She was predeceased by her brother, Bennie Bockser and by her four sisters, Sarah Zamcheck, Patricia Kurland, Helen Small and Naomi Cherkofsky. Funeral arrangements are private. The family will receive relatives and friends at the home of her beloved in-laws, Sandra and Izzy Levine, 4 Warbler Circle, Bloomfield on Tuesday, January 22, between 3-7 pm.
