Obituary

Richard H. Sherman, 72, of Alexandra, VA., died suddenly Monday October 22. He was born in Hartford, the son of the late George J. and Lottie Kovarsky Sherman. He was raised in West Hartford and was a graduate of Hall High School and the University of Connecticut. Richard retired from the Air Force with the rank of Colonel and he worked for the Defense Intelligence Agency. He was a collector of political and sports memorabilia.

He is survived by his wife, Joan Gitlin Sherman of Alexandria, a brother and sister-in-law Dr. William and Samantha Sherman of West Hartford and a sister Susan Sherman of Newington.

Funeral services, conducted by Rabbi Howard Herman, will be graveside at the Emanuel Synagogue Cemetery, 1361 Berlin Turnpike, Wethersfield on Thursday October 25 at 11 a.m., with full military honors. Shiva will be at 7 pm on Thursday at the home of Dr. William and Samantha Sherman, 14 Old Brook Rd. in West Hartford

The family extends its thanks to Richard’s care team of many years – Fatima Sheriff, Hawa Kamara, Josephine Kamara, Victoria Konadu, Memuna Soumah and Hayford Asante.

Donations to honor the life of Richard Sherman may be made to HARC, 900 Asylum Ave., MS1002, Hartford, Ct 06105. May his memory be for a blessing.

Dick had a commanding presence when entering a room. Good sense of humor, too. Worked w/ him in the late 1980s. May Colonel Sherman rest in peace.
