Obituary

Ronald Irwin Kaplan, 83, beloved husband  of Muriel “Cookie” Stepakoff Kaplan for 60 years, adored father, grandfather, uncle and friend, passed away January 26, 2019, after many years with Alzheimer’s Disease (Dementia). Born in New Haven, CT (April 16, 1935). He grew up in Waterbury, CT and graduated from Crosby High School, 1954. He resided in Bloomfield (27 years), West Hartford (30 years) Old Saybrook, and Delray Beach Florida. Ron has been a resident of Seabury Brewer Center, Bloomfield since 2014. Ron was a Senior Vice President of Sales North America East and a member of the Board of Directors for Combined Insurance Company, Chicago, Illinois (previously known as Hearthstone Insurance, Co.). Ron was an outstanding, positive, and successful salesman and manager to 1000’s of employees for 38 years. He was an athlete who played several sports extremely well. He utilized his individual skill strengths and positive competitive attitude in all areas of his personal and professional life. Besides being an athlete, Ron was known for his versatility on the dancer and he loved dancing with his wife for many years. He helped kickstart the Bloomfield Midget Football League and additionally was known as “Coach Kaplan” making a significant impact with many young athletes who played sports for the Bloomfield Public Schools and community sports teams. Ron was an avid Yankees fan. Ron is predeceased by his father Sol Kaplan, mother Betty Kaplan and brother Gerald M. Kaplan. He leaves his two children, Lisa Kaplan Scherer, Gregory Kaplan and his wife Elana Katz Kaplan and grandchildren, Marisa Scherer, Michael Scherer, Danyella Kaplan and Jake Kaplan. Ron will be sorely missed by all who knew him and loved him. Many thanks to all the staff on the Brewer Wing at Seabury Long Term Care. Bloomfield, CT. Funeral services will be held Monday, January 28, 2019 at 1:30pm at the Chapel of Weinstein’s Mortuary, 640 Farmington Avenue, West Hartford, CT. Burial following service at Hartford Mutual Society Cemetery, East Granby. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Alzheimer’s Association or any charity of your choice.
