Ronald ‘Ron’ H. Wolpoe, 71 years of age, of Bloomfield passed away Thursday, April 30, 2009. Born in Passaic, NJ, he was the son of the late Harry and Gertrude (Levin) Wolpoe. He graduated from The Watkinson School and attended Hillyer College, which is now part of the University of Hartford. He served with the Military Police in the US Army Reserves. Ron was a factory representative for several national companies. He worked for Barridon Corporation in Hartford, and he was the publisher and editor for several newspapers and magazines, including one for the over 40’s crowd named Sasparilla, as well as one called Home Town News. He was a member of Beth Hillel Synagogue of Bloomfield, Bloomfield Lions Club and Bloomfield Rotary. He received the prestigious Paul Harris Award from Bloomfield Rotary and was a recipient of the highest recognition in Lionism, the Melvin Jones Award. Ron was also past president of the Bloomfield Lions Club and was the Charter President, Founder and Guiding Lion of the Connecticut Singles Lions Club. He was the District Governor of Lions District 23 B (Hartford and Litchfield Counties). He leaves his daughter, Shana F. Wolpoe of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; his son, Dr. Matthew E. Wolpoe and his wife Rhea of Billings, MT; his grandchildren, who were the lights of his life, Harrison Rex Wolpoe and Greta Rose Wolpoe; his sister, Susan Wolpoe of West Hartford; his brother, Rabbi Richard Wolpoe and his wife Ramona Goodman Wolpoe of Teaneck, NJ; and his best friend Sydney T. Schulman and his wife Elba of Bloomfield.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, May 3, 2009 at 12:30 PM in the Chapel of the Weinstein Mortuary, 640 Farmington Ave., Hartford with interment in the Beth David Synagogue Cemetery, Wethersfield. Following the interment, the family will receive relatives and friends for a meal of condolence at Beth Hillel Synagogue, 160 Wintonbury Ave., Bloomfield. Shiva will be observed Sunday evening through Tuesday at the home of Sydney T. Schulman, 8 High Ledge Rd., Bloomfield.
