Ruth Chayes passed peacefully on 3/24/17. She was a resident of Bloomfield, CT and had been a member of Beth Hillel Synagogue. She was born in Vienna, “got out” with her parents, beloved sister Alma and favorite brother Ernest in 1939. They arrived in England a day before war was declared, survived the blitz and came to the US prior to 1941. In 1948 she married Norman, and is survived by her children Lea and Daniel. In 1960, when Combustion Engineering moved to CT the Chayes family settled on Jeffrey Lane. Ruth was in the PTA, the Sisterhood, bowling league and the BHS book club. For 10 years she took the bus into Hartford to work at Travelers. She was creative, an excellent cook and known for being a great friend. When other girls at camp were sent cookies Lea got homemade rugaluch. If Dan wanted stuffed cabbage and apple cake it was there. Through all our travails she was totally supportive. She adored her family: Alma, Zach, Ernie, Jeffrey, Eleanor, Rick, Irene, Bill, Debbie, Naomi, Jeff, Hal, Elyse and David and loved the children. Ruth knitted stunning sweaters, hats for newborns, volunteered at Hadassah and became a VP in charge of membership. Holidays were extra special because of family and friends. From 1980-1983 Ruth and Norman, thanks to CE, moved to Haifa, Israel. Norman was a consultant and Ruth drove family and friends around to show them Israel. One time she drove the car into Egypt for Combustion. They travelled, played golf, enjoyed time in Florida and later she was a singer with the Music Makers. This was her modus operandi: don’t worry, it will all work out; never use the word hate nor generalize about people. The funeral service was 3/27 and services were led by Rabbi Lazowski. Donations to Friends of the IDF, Hadassah or JNF.
