Ruth (Vidaver) (Wofsy) Firestone, 84, of Newington, passed away on May 19, 2012. She was born in Saranac Lake, NY and lived 45 years in New Britain. She was the daughter of Sadie (Snyder) and Heimy Vidaver and the widow of Malcolm Wofsy and Benjamin Firestone. She was the beloved mother of Sheila Wofsy and Reggie Lenoir of Suches, GA; Pamela and Shimon Schwartz, of Far Rockaway, NY; Mike and Jeanette Wofsy of Rocky Hill; Lisa and Craig Rydecki of Newington; Elliot and Bonnie Firestone of Coventry. She leaves 13 adored grandchildren: Sara Rivka (Avi) Peltz, Mottie (Michal) Schwartz, Yitzie (Shani) Schwartz, Yechiel ( Tova) Schwartz, Estie (Yakov) Milstein, Meyer Simcha ( Sora) Schwartz, Shloimie Schwartz, Malcolm Wofsy, Jacob Wofsy, Amy Rydecki Bertolini, Jessica Rydecki, Michelle Firestone, Stephen Firestone. She was extremely proud to have 23 precious great grandchildren. She also leaves her sister Jerry Klein, many nieces, nephews and friends. Ruthie was predeceased by her sister Freda Joseph. She was employed by High Production Machine Co. and later self-employed with her husband Ben. Her passion in recent years was genealogy, for which she spent many hours at her computer. She also loved bingo. Over the years she was active in many organizations: Mr. & Mrs. Club and Sisterhood at Cong. Tephereth Israel; New Britain Hadassah; Newington Jewish Seniors; New Britain Jewish Seniors; Congregation B’Nai Sholom, Newington; Market Square Apts. Newington. Ruth volunteered at New Britain General Hospital, R.S.V.P. and Jefferson House (Newington).
Funeral services will be held at Monday, May 21, 2012 at 1:00 PM in the Chapel of the Weinstein Mortuary, 640 Farmington Ave, Hartford followed by interment at Beth Alom Cemetery, Allen Street, New Britain. The family will receive relatives and friends at the home of Elliot Firestone, 32 Zeya Dr, Coventry, following the interment until 8:00 PM, and again at the home of Lisa Rydecki, 265 Lowery Place, Apt 4, Newington on Tuesday, May 22, from 4:30-8:30 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to New Britain Hadassah, the Newington Food Bank or your favorite charity .
