Grobard

Obituary

GROBARD, Sandra (Glazier) Grobard, died February 1, 2011, following a courageous battle with cancer. Her beloved son Gary was with her at Hartford Hospital when she died. She was born on October 3, 1941 in Hartford and was the daughter of the late Samuel and Sylvia Glazier. Sandy was a lifelong Connecticut resident. She graduated from Weaver High School and Hartford Secretarial School. Shortly after her graduation, she married the love of her life, the late Harvey Grobard. She is survived by her cherished son Gary, his wife Tracy and her only granddaughter Addison, whom she absolutely loved and adored, all of Burlington, CT. Sandy also leaves many beloved relatives and dear friends. Sandy lived most of her life in Windsor, CT, where she worked in the Windsor Public School System for over 30 years. She worked as a media aide, school secretary, and a transportation specialist. Sandy was an ardent fan and supporter of UCONN Women’s Basketball. She followed the team to the Final Four for a number of years and attended many games at Gampel and the XL Center. Those she did not attend, she watched on television. Sandy was an ardent dog lover. She had many special pets through the years; most important of those was her late dog Samantha who brought her many years of joy and companionship. Funeral services will be held Friday, February 4, 2011 at 1:30 PM in the Chapel of the Weinstein Mortuary, 640 Farmington Ave., Hartford with Rabbi Yitzchok Adler officiating. Interment will follow in the Teferes Israel Synagogue Cemetery, West Hartford. A memorial period will be observed at the home of her son, 83 George Washington Turnpike, Burlington Friday following the interment through Sunday evening. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Susan G. Koman Breast Cancer Foundation or to a charity of the donor’s choice. I have known Sandy since she was secretary at Wolcott School and my daughter entered kindergarten there in the mid 70s. When I became secretary at JFK, it was Sandy who became my mentor; the go-to person who could answer any question I could dream up. We both retired and lost touch, but she was a hard-working lady. I am saddened that she didn't have more retired years to spend with her son & daughter-in-law and to spoil her beloved granddaughter rotten.

Gary, Tracy and Addison, My deepest sympathy to you all. Sandy was a special person. She and I had many good times together as members of the famous UCONN "Senior Cheerleaders" at the Final Four and local basketball games. We miss her.
