Sara W. Rowe passed away on Saturday, April 12, 2014, at the age of 98, at St. Mary Nursing Home in West Hartford, CT. Sara was born in Hartford, CT, on Feb. 3, 1916. She was a graduate of Hartford Public High School. She was employed by Aetna Insurance Company in the Underwriting Department for many years. She was predeceased by her husband of 37 years, Ben David Rowe. Sara was active as a volunteer at the Bloomfield Senior Center and at CT Radio Information Service for the Blind where she was awarded a certificate for 20 years of dedicated service. Two of her other favorite charities were Hadassah and MADD. She gave lovingly of her time and wisdom to family and friends. She was an avid Mah Jongg and Bridge player. In her later years, she studied painting at the Wintonbury Art League and became quite a talent. She loved to exercise and did aerobics well into her nineties. Sara is survived by her three daughters, Marcia Rowe of West Hartford; Sandra Carrier of Harwinton; and Elaine Rowe of East Hampton; her six grandchildren, Tamara Siedle, Mathieu Jean, Seth Carrier, Jeffrey Carrier, Derek Turner and Zachary Turner, as well as her two great-grandchildren, Gabriella Siedle and Maximillian Siedle. She is also survived by her two sons-in-law, Paul Carrier and Edward Siedle, as well as her loving companion, Nathan Geetter. The family would also like to thank the nursing and hospice staff at St. Mary Home for their kind and compassionate care.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM on Monday, April 14, 2014 at Tikvoh Zion Camp Cemetery, Cleveland Ave. Ext., Hartford, CT 06112 with Rabbi Philip Lazowski officiating. Donations may be made to her favorite charities.
