Sarah (Markman) Friedman, of West Hartford, CT, passed away on Friday, July 21, 2017. She was the beloved wife of the late I. Edward Friedman. Born in Hartford, CT, she was the daughter of the late Samuel and Sophie Markman. Sarah was born on May 24, 1916 on Franklin Avenue in Hartford and she remained a “south-ender” at heart her entire life. She was a graduate of Bulkeley High School, Class of 1933-B. After a year of college, she returned to Bulkeley as a school secretary until 1952, after which she married, raised her family in West Hartford and assisted her husband in his accounting practice. She returned to work in the Hartford schools from 1972 until her retirement in 1979. She was a member of Beth El Temple for over 60 years and participated in many charitable endeavors. Sarah leaves her son, Matthew L. Friedman, of West Hartford; her daughter, Sue F. Torres of West Hartford CT; her beloved grandchildren, Aaron Torres and Gloria Torres; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her parents and her sisters, Ethel Corash, Grace Markman and Rose Adelson. The family would like to thank all who assisted with her care, with a special thank you to Theresa Smith who has been her principal caretaker for the last several years. Funeral services will be held at 11:00am on Monday, July 24, 2017 in the Chapel of Beth El Temple, 2626 Albany Ave., West Hartford, CT with Rabbi James Rosen officiating. Internment will follow in the Beth El Temple Cemetery, 51 Jackson St., Avon, CT. The family will receive relatives and friends immediately following the internment at Beth El Temple.
