Selma Lee Markowitz, 88, of West Hartford formerly of Baltimore, MD, passed away on Saturday, (December 27, 2008) in West Hartford. Born in Jersey City, NJ, she was the daughter of the late Gussie and Sam Levy. She attended college at Syracuse University and graduate school in Public Health at Johns Hopkins University. She worked for many years in Human Services and Public Health and was an effective advocate for children and people in need. She was a beloved wife of the late Milton Markowitz for 60 years, the loved mother of David and Dawn Markowitz of Maine, Martha Markowitz of Boston, MA, Steven Markowitz and Mary Haviland of Brooklyn, NY and Alice Markowitz of Boston, MA; the cherished grandmother of Seth, Morgan, Jonah, Ben and Nathaniel as well as the great grandmother of Alexandra. She was also the beloved sister of the late Henry Lee and aunt to Amy Harris of Baltimore, MD. She died in contentment, having fulfilled and been wholeheartedly fulfilled by her family, close friends and the many people she helped and inspired.
