Seymour L. Kroopnick of Avon, Connecticut, died at home on Thursday, September 28, 2023. He was born in Hartford to Clara (Rome) and Abraham Kroopnick, and was the youngest of three siblings.
After graduating Weaver High School, he attended the University of Connecticut and then worked as a social worker for the State of Connecticut. He served in the Korean War in the army. After an honorable discharge, he attended Boston University School of Law.
Among his proudest professional achievements, was serving as the Town of West Hartford’s first public defender. After a lengthy legal career dedicated to advocating for those less fortunate, he retired at the age of 89. He was a respected member of his profession and beloved by many.
Seymour was preceded by his first wife, Lorraine Ariker Kroopnick, and his sisters, Faigie and Miriam. He is survived by his wife, Ina Bendett, with whom he enjoyed many happy years together, and his children, Kenneth (Megan) Kroopnick, Yosef (Batya) Kroopnick, Lianne (Etiel) Forman, and his step-children, Lori (Bill) Bendett, and Adam & Eve Bendett, who, over the past year treated him with great kindness. He was blessed by many grandchildren and great-grandchildren and leaves behind countless people deeply touched by him during his lifetime.
The funeral took place in Beth El Cemetery on September 29, 2023. Donations may be made to Jewish Family Services of Greater Hartford in his memory.
