Sheila (Schechtman) Weinberg, 80 years of age, of West Hartford, CT, died Thursday, January 1, 2015. She was the widow of Jack Lewis Weinberg. As newborns, Sheila and her future husband Jack were in the Hartford Hospital maternity ward at the same time, (as The Blizzard of ’34 raged outside). They were engaged at Tanglewood and married at Beth El Temple. She was the daughter of the late Dr. Charles and Sylvia (Shakin) Schechtman.
She was a graduate of Northfield Mount Hermon and Connecticut College. Early in her career she served as an educator in the Stamford public school system and then later as a realtor for over 25 years with Orange Agency. Utilizing her warmth and delightful personality, Sheila served for two decades as the Welcome Wagon Hostess in Orange Connecticut. She was active with ORT, Hadassah and other charitable endeavors as well as being a longtime member of Beth El Temple and Congregation B’Nai Jacob in Woodbridge. An excellent Bridge player, Sheila was also a voracious reader. Three books at a time was her minimum.
She was a proud and loving mother to her two sons, Howard S. Weinberg of Aventura, FL, and Neal J. Weinberg and wife Nurit of Greenwich, CT; and her daughter, Debra Harvey of Potomac, MD and Boca Raton, FL; a doting grandmother to her ten grandchildren and great granddaughter; close sibling to Reba Maisel and husband Louis of Harvard MA and her brother, Jonathan Schechtman and wife Karin of Quechee, VT.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Sunday, January 4, 2015 in the Chapel of the Weinstein Mortuary, 640 Farmington Ave., Hartford, CT with Rabbi James Rosen officiating. Interment will follow in Beth Alom Cemetery, Allen St., New Britain, CT .
