Obituary

MOONEY, Shella C. Shella Cecilia (Steinberg) Mooney, 88 years of age, of Simsbury, died Monday, (October 21, 2013) at home with her family at her bedside. She was a loving Wife, Mother and Grandmother. Born in New Haven, she was the daughter of the late Zachary and Ella (Toplitsky) Steinberg. She was a member of Beth El Temple of West Hartford. She was a volunteer for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation and she was a member of The National Council of Jewish Women. She leaves her husband, Robert I. Mooney; her son, Dr. Hal J. Mooney and his wife Judy of West Hartford; her daughters, Bryna S. Mooney of Simsbury, and Rhonda M. Stachowiak and her husband Edward of Weatogue; and her grandchildren, Dr. Melissa Wikoff and her husband Joshua, Steven Mooney, and Eric Stachowiak. The family would like to thank her three wonderful caregivers, Rose, Carol and Kathy. Funeral services will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, October 23, 2013 at Beth El Temple Cemetery, Jackson St. Ext., Avon with Rabbi James Rosen officiating. A memorial period will be observed Wednesday following the funeral through Thursday evening at the home of her daughter, Rhonda M. Stachowiak, 124 Old Canal Way, Weatogue. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Juvenile Diabetes, 20 Batterson Park Rd., Farmington 06032, or to the Alzheimer’s Association , 2075 Silas Deane Highway, Suite 100, Rocky Hill, CT 06067.
