Sherwin “Sonny” Welson, 84 years of age, of Longboat Key, FL and West Hartford, CT, beloved husband of 59 years to Elinor (Stein) Welson and loving father to Cathy Welson and Linda Rosenthal, passed away peacefully on Monday, (August 5, 2013) with his family at his side. Besides his wife and daughters, he leaves his sons-in-law, Stephen Edberg and Robert Rosenthal; seven grandchildren, Melissa Peracchio and her husband Mike, Jessica Markowitz, Nicole Markowitz, Zachary Markowitz, Benjamin Rosenthal, Elizabeth Rosenthal, and Daniel Rosenthal; his first great-grandchild, Chase Peracchio; his sister Shirley Diamond of Salem, CT; and countless close friends in both communities. Sonny was born in Hartford, CT on January 13, 1929 to the late Benjamin and Sima (Lifshitz) Welson. He attended local schools and graduated from Colby College in Maine. He was a US Army veteran of the Korean War. Funeral services will be held at 11 on Wednesday August 7 in the Chapel of the Weinstein Mortuary, 640 Farmington Ave., Hartford with Rabbi Yitzchok Adler officiating. Interment will follow in the Emanuel Synagogue Cemetery, 1361 Berlin Turnpike, Wethersfield. Following the interment the family will receive relatives and friends at the home of his daughter, Cathy Welson, 7 Cherry Hills Circle (Gillette Ridge), Bloomfield.
