Shirley M. Boxer, 96, of South Windsor, CT passed away peacefully on April 16, 2015 with her daughters at her side. She was predeceased (2001) by her husband of 60 years, Louis Boxer. Shirley was born in Hartford, daughter of Jacob and Gussie (Jacobson) Fierberg. Shirley graduated from Weaver High (’37) and Bryant College (’39) before marrying in 1941. After a few years in Chicago, she and Lou purchased their farm in South Windsor. Boxer’s Poultry Farm was well known for outstanding capons and chicken bar-b-ques. Shirley also worked at CT General Insurance Co. until her retirement from the pension department in 1981. Shirley and Lou travelled extensively and visited many countries around the world. In 1985, Shirley and Lou moved to Silver Shores in Key Largo, FL where they spent 16 wonderful years with friends and family and were active members of the Keys Jewish Community Center. Shirley was a warm and caring mother, grandmother and great grandmother who was nonjudgmental, patient, open-minded and supportive. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her brother Lewis Fierberg. Shirley leaves daughters Maxine Lubow and her husband Stanley of NY, Jacqueline Boxer of West Hartford and Diane Boxer and her spouse Janet Mrozowski-Boxer of South Windsor. Also, granddaughters Ilyse Rothman and her son Andre Mikkelson, and Kara Rothman and her son Jesse Elia all of Virginia, as well as several nieces and nephews. The family thanks the staff of Seabury, especially Cindy & Winsome for their years of friendship and support extended to Shirley.
Weinstein’s is in charge of arrangements. Burial will be in Mt. Nebo Cemetery, Kendall, FL. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Keys Jewish Community Center, Key Largo, FL or Charter Oak Cultural Center, 21 Charter Oak Ave, Hartford, CT.
