MILLER, Sidney Miller, 86, died peacefully on Saturday morning, (December 19, 2009), at Hartford Hospital surrounded by his loving children and grandchildren. He was a devoted husband to Harriet Danen Miller, his wife of 52 years who passed on December 30, 2002. Harriet and Sidney were founding members of Congregation Beth Ahm, in Windsor, CT. Forty five years ago, Sidney and Harriet opened Sid Miller’s Appliances, a neighborhood landmark, on Cottage Grove Rd. in Bloomfield. Sidney was a born salesman and could be seen selling appliances at the store until a few weeks ago. His reputation as a business man was one of honesty, reliability and a true believer in the maxim that the “customer is always right.” Sidney was the son of Samuel and Sarah (Klein) Miller. He was born in the Hartford area, resided there his entire life and enjoyed lifetime friendships with many who also grew up in the north end of Hartford. Sidney was a proud and highly decorated veteran of World War II, having served as a combat medic in the European Theater with the 347th Infantry Regiment. He was awarded the Silver Star, Bronze Star, Purple Heart and various other combat related medals and citations. In 2008, Sidney was honored to be the Parade Marshall of the Windsor Memorial Day Parade. He was active in the Jewish War Veterans and recently enjoyed a trip to Washington, DC, with 102 other World War II veterans on the Honor Flight, sponsored by American Warrior. Sidney’s love of family, friends and life, especially his dedication to Harriet, will be remembered by his children and grandchildren. Sidney had a perennial upbeat nature; he never complained and was willing to share his stories with all who would listen, especially at the poker table. Sidney leaves his sister Mae Miller; sons and daughters-in-law, David and Terri Miller of Glastonbury, Stephen and Liz Miller of West Hartford, and Alan and Lynn Miller of West Hartford; and grandchildren, Jason and Sally, Josh and Katie, Sam, Julie, Robert and Melissa, Laura, Adam and Matt. Sidney’s family thanks Tom, Joan and Nancy for their friendship, and the staff at DaVita Dialysis in Bloomfield, CT. Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 21, 2009 at 1:00 PM in the Chapel of the Weinstein Mortuary, 640 Farmington Avenue, Hartford, CT. Interment will follow in the Hartford Mutual Society Cemetery, Wolcott Rd., East Granby. The family will be receiving relatives and friends after the interment and on Tuesday and Wednesday from 6:30 – 8:30 PM at the home of Alan and Lynn Miller, 61 Brightview Dr., West Hartford, CT. Donations can be sent to the National MS Society or to a charity of the donor’s choosing.
